[For the Lancaster-Ledger. | Hai.timouf., Mn? Sept. 1H, 1857. Dear Ledger:?As you are aware, J left Lancaster <>n the 14th mst.. for Camden, In which point f arrived in snfetv snipe evening and put tip at Robiti-son'o. Nothing of interest occurred during the trip. The com crop between Lancaster and Catudcii is good, in fact they look as well as I ever saw them ; tho cotton crop, however,is very indifferent; 1 do not recollect of ever s, eing a more gloomy prospect for a cotton crop in tny life; in fact it is dying for want of ruin. We had quite a dusty trip, I assure you, and had it not been for some melons and a lunch which our better half, more ?i,?.w.i.ir..i ? ? .. /vigilwui in.hi we were, Fi:nl put up lur us, we certainly would have fared badly.? Next day left Camden at 30 minutes after 1 o'clock, P. SI., for Kingsville ; tit Kingsville met with our immediate representative in Congress the lion. John McQueen; be looks to be in fine health and spirits and is full of life. In view of Southern interests, he is certainly the tr.nn for the post lie occupies ; long may -he live and continuo to fill it. We also had the pleasure of seeing the Hon. I,. M. Keitt, and was much pleased with him; be appears to be young ami ill the prime of life and looks is though lie could continue the pood work for many years to cunio. Left Kingsville for Wiimiugton, N. C., at 45 minutes after 5 o'clock, 1'. M. The morning train to Wilmington run oil' the track H miles above that point; no person j injured that I heard of; the passengers got on a freight train and went on hut missed the connection ami ?had to put up lor the night. They have had a tremendous storm at Wilmington which had ruslu-d iho tide water out of the ('ape Fear K;ver and injured the Hail Kond in places for 14 miles. However, it was all repaired and we had ? clear track and run through: we arrived at Wilmington 30 minutes after 4 o'clock, A M., and left again.fur Weldenat 16 minutes after.6 A. si. The storm at Wilurngton has been a perfect hurricane, tearing trees up by (he roots and slrswing the corn in every direction and in fact for miles on both sides it has been terrible. Corn crops are good from Canxlcn to Wilmington, but there is no cotton nuking. 17 miles before reaching Weldelt we had it collision by couiing in contact with the pas-vnger train front -Wclden which was running at the time at the rate of 26 miles an hour. However, we were running very slowly as we had just left Kntield, had we been running at the speed they were we must have been ail smashed to pieces. We vvere turning a curve and neither train could discover the other until too late, the crash was inevitable and it came like lightning with a tremendous force, sinvdiing things to pieces in the most shocking manner JJoth Engines weie thrown fiom tie tuck and every ear detached, and stiange to say, no one was killed. Sqmo of the passengeis were slightly injured from attempting to jump out and some that did so was also hurt. The collision took place at 15 minutes before 1 o'clock,,P. M.,and only detained us2J hours when we again got both Engines on the track and chained the cars together as well as we could and again the whistle sounded and we heard that oft repeated word "all aboard" which heralded to us the welcome news that we were again in a travelling condition, nnd soon we weru on our way to WeldcB as merry as crickets. Lost, the connection at Welden nnd had to ly over for 12 hours, stopped at the well known Jarret House, took supper and got a good sleep and at half after 1 o'clock A. M. left for Petersburg, passed through Petersburg, Richmond and Washington, nothing of interest occurring to nu.r the oven tenor of our way. At (> o'clock, P. M. (Fridav) we arrived in Baltimore, the old Monumental city where we are still sojourning at Baenums, but as we are only birds of pannage w ill not remain long in this thy of Hills. Crops of corn looks well through N. C., Va. and Maryland and the growing crop of Tobacco looka fine and should the entire crop be sui h as we have seen throughout N. C. and Va., consumers of the weed need fear no scarcity as their quids will be replenished. We got in company with a young man from Geo., who is on his way to Nicaragua, that land of promise, the only hope now for the extension of Southern territory and of domestic shivery, ami as Kansas is on the very verge of being Ahlitiomxed, the South : j should at least look w ith a jealous eye to Central America as the last hope and resort , for the entension of her much loved institution which is engrafted so indissoluble with her very existence.
