Al a ministers' meeting this text was brought up for discussion, and at length one of their number was appointed to write on it for the next monthly meeting. A servant giil who heard this,exclaim- ! ed involuntarily, 4A whole month wanted to toll the meaning of that text ! It ii one of the easiest and best texts in the Bible. Iler remark being overboard, one of iiie ministers rantu lo tier, uiul said, Well, tell me ho>v yon understand it ;? ! can yon pray all the time V 'O yes, sir.' j What, when yen have so much to do V i Why, sir, the more i havy to do, the more 1 can pray.' 'Well my good girl, toll us how it is, for the most people do not think so.' 'Well sir, when I opcu my eyes in the morning, I pray that the eyes of my understanding may he opened; and while 1 am dressing, 1 prav that I may l>e clothed in the robe of Christ's righteousness ; and when 1 wash myself, I praythat 1 may hare the washing of regeneration. As 1 Legist work, 1 pray that 1 may have strength equal to my day.? "When I kindle llie re, I pray that tlie lire of divine lovo may warm sny heart. ' As I sweep, I ask that my heart may be , cleansed from all lliat is impure ; mid while I npi getting and eating breakfast, j 1 pray to be fed with '.lie bread of liea- j ven. Then as I look to the children, I look up to my heavenly Father and prav I that 1 may he his own child ; and so on nil the day.' 'Enough,' said the minister,'go 011 nrd pray without ceasing.' Surely these things though hid from the wise and prudent, are revealed to babes. 'The meek will JIc guard in judgment.' DAILY BREAD. "Give us this day, our duilv bread." How thankless, how often much worse than thank!ers, are we to (Jod for our daily food! 'Tis true, it is pecersary for our sustenance, and without we cannot live ; but how many seem each day to persist lil fimltnrv fu??lt /*'? - ? 11 * ... .nun null IIH3 VJIVtr OI Hit gOO(l things, instead of feeling llieii own unworthiness of what he bestows, and gratitude for what he provides! It is not a rare thing to see some who from habit are always dissatisfied. They think not of the millions, it mav ho who are far less blessed than they, nor of multitudes nround them, who night after night lay their weary heads to rest with hardly suf ficient to sustain life, and lliat little, too, of the poorest kind. Thankful are even maliv such for their meagre fare ; while we, with far more cause for praise, scarcely think of it. Would that those who possess tlm means to live comfortably, hut who often complain, could for one short week iealize the life of the poor,?then would the\ return to their own well filled boards with more grateful hearts and contented minds. (?od loves to have us ask him for all vve need, and in his wise providence he bestows as he thinks best. He likes us, py. Would tliHt we felt our want of it now, and kept drawing from the inexhaustable supply offered to us ! We do not value it as wo sliould, but seek mere earthly fooJ, which is limited in its extent, and must soon perish. Christ's bo dy is the bread of life, lie gives it to us freely, and saying, ''Take, eat, this is my body, elijch was given for you?do this in rerr.etnbrnnce of me." Pur Saviour could not always be hero on earth, but left us this for a memorial. Shall we not accept it, and bc-odes this, like St. Paul, let us, "In every thing gite thanks."?
