The following article we copy from the Rural Intelligencer, as worthy of attention hy those who desire to preserve the i..of>? of their habitations and building*? "Some paint roof shingles as they are laid. This tuidtes thein rot sooner than they otherwise would. Some paint the courses as they nro laid ; this is a great preservative, if each tdiingla is painted the length of three courses. Iltit as sure a way to preserve shingles, and that w.t'i little Or no expense, is a diode recomthended in a letter to us hy lion. David Hunter, of Clintoh, on the tiUd of February last. A WRINKLE ABOUT THJS AGE OF HORSES. ** | A few days ago wo met a gentleman from Alabama, who gave us a piece of iuforuiHtWn in regard to ascertaining the | age of a horse, after he or she has passed the ninth year, which was new D us, nnd ! will bo, wc are sure, to most ol our readers. ; It is lb ? ; after the horse is nine years old, j it wrinkle comes on tho eyelid; at tho np | per c< mor of the lower lid, and every yeai thereafter he has one well defined wrinkle foi each year of his ago over nine. IT, foi instance, a horse has three wrinkles, lie is I twelve: if four, ho is thirteen. Add iht i number of' wrinkles to nine and you will I alwavs get it. So says the gentleman J and iie is confident it will never fail. A! a good many people have horses over nine 1 it is ensily tried. If true, the horse dentist I must gitc up his trade. Wo believe the best judges have a rule ! which they rely on as infallible to the agi j of fourteen. The horse has six incisors I " nipped," as they are commonly callec 1 ?the front teeth. They have such i j dent in llicm, just like the Jent in gouri seed corn, and are hence called gourd seed At four years old, the front pair at button ; lose the gourd seed, become smooth ; a fix, the n?>:t two?una oil on !i side; a ; eight, the tiert pair, which completes tin bottom sett. At ten, the front upper paii becomes smooth ; at twelve, the next paii at fourteen, the Itist pair. After this tin " wrinkle *' may cotne into play.
