POETRY. PARODY HOHERLINDEH, Is MMoni when oar funds are low, Subscribers are provoking slow, And new supplies keep up tho flow Of dimes departing rapidly. But we shall see a sudden sight, When cum pour in from morn to night, Commanding every six-pence bright To be forked ovpr speedily. , Our bonds and due bills are arrayed? Eseh seal and signature displaced? The holders vow they must be paid, With threats of "I>nw and Chancery "" Then to despair we're (ilmost driven? There's precious little use in livin', When our last copper's rudely riven From hands that held it lovingly. But larger yet those dues shall grow, When interest's added on below, Length'ning our chin a foot or so, While gazing at them hopelessly. 'Tia so, that scarce have we begun 7b plead for time upon a dun, Before there comes some other one, ? Demanding psy ferociously: The prospect darkens. On ye brave. Who would our beacon save ! Waive, patrons all your pretexts waive! And pay the Printer cheerfully, jpe-. | Ah ! it would yield us pleasure sweet A few delinquents now to meet. Asking of us a clear receipt, For papers taken regularly. MISCELLANEOUSHow to Know the Age ot a Hone. The colt is born with twelve grinders. "When four frout-teeth have made their appearance, the colt is twelvo days old ; and when the next four come forth, it is four weeks old. When the corner-teeth appear, the colt is eight months, and when the latter have attained to the height of the front-teeth, it is one year old. The two year old colt has the kernel (the dark substance in the middle of the tooth's crown) ground out of all the front-teeth. In the third year the middle front-teeth are being shifted-; and when three years old these are substituted by the horse-teeth. The next four teeth are shifted in the fourth year, and the coruer-teelh in the fifth. At six years the kernel is worn out of the lower middle frout-teeth, and the bridle-teeth have now attained to their full growth. At seven years a hook has been formed on the corner-teeth of the 1- ? .L. 1 1 -i - ui'p<? j?w uiv kcruiti pi lue i?cm next at the middle fronts is worn out, the bridleteeth begin to wear off. At eight years of ago. the kernal is worn out, of all the lower front-teeth and begins to decrease in the middle upper fronts. In the ninth year, kernel has wholly disappeared from the upper middle front-teeth, the hook on the corner-teeth has increased in size, and the bridle-teeth lose their points. In the tenth year the kernel is worn out of the teeth next to the middle fronts of the upCr jaw; and in the eleventh year the rnel bus entirely vanished front the corner teeth of the same jaw. At twelve years old, the crown of all the front teeth in the lower jaw, has become triangular and the dridle teeth are much worn down. As the horse advances in age the gums shrink away from the teeth, which, consequently, receive a long narrow appearance and their kernels have become metaphorphosed into a darkish point, gray hairs increase in the forehead, over the eyes, and the chin assumes the form of an angle.?Practical Farmer. Boys Wanted. The Philadelphia City Item lets off the following: What are wo to do for boys? When we were a boy, there were lot9 of boys, but they have gradually grown source, until now there is hardly a boy left. As we walk through the streets we see in shop windows, "Boys Wanted." When we i pick up a newspaper, the first advertisement that strikes our eye, is "A Hoy Wanted." In a word,'everybody wants a bov. Now, in view of this great scarcity of boys, what are we to do! What shall we ' do for a substitute to light our fires, sweep j our office and run our errands ? The other day a little fellow about four- ' teen years of age, (begging his pardon, we took hira for a boy,) applied to us far a < situation. i "What can you do!" we inquired. I "A little of almost evervthiiiir." was the 1 reply. "Are you quick at your errand* ? "Well, sir, I don't much like to do errands." Ik "tjan you sweep and dost well!"
