Tour band I take in mine, Willie, And fancy I've the art To read, while gazing in your face, The records of your heart; Tia joy an honest hand to hold, That gem of modest worth, By me more prized than nli the gold Of ail 1 the mines of earth, Willie, |. A conscience void of guile, Willie, A disposition kind, A nature, gentle and sincere, Accomplished nnd refined, A mind that was not formed to bow, An aspiration high, Are beaming on your thoughtful brow, And in your cheerful eye, Willie, And in your cheerful eye. I lovo yon?not for fashion's sake, But for yourself alone; And this is why your hvnd I take So fondly in my own, Willie, So fondly in my own. agricultuhaIT" The Cottoh Crop.?a 'Merchant' has furnished the Mobile Register the following remarks of 'one of the closest observers of the crops of the country 'The opinions which I have several times expressed to you in respect to the forth coming cotton crop of Alabama, are still unchanged. 1 understand there are a few very good cro|>s on the Black Warrior, ten or fifteen miles from this place, but it is generally concluded that the rrop on the low lands will not exceed two-thirds that of 1852 or'53. On the flu lirlu 111 Jun/lo I ?? -1 ?1,1 * * u|/iauug a nni sure II Will DOl lliril oil" above one-half. 'The crops on ihe black, or liinc lands, as they are familiarly called, are said to be more unequal than usual. Some, very good, others very indifferent?the average falling quite below the crops of 18*2 and 1853. A friend of mine, of reliable judgment, now planting in Marengo, lias just returned from North Alabama, where lie is well acquainted, reports the cotton crop in the Tennessee valley to be about twothirds of last year, and says the coin crop is in proportion short. 'In middle Alabama, the forward corn lias yielded a fair average, while that planted late has pro luced but little. '1 do not remember ever to have seen as many hogs in Alabama at this limi. The moat of them will be slaughtered, though perhaps the scarcity of corn will prevent thein from being fattened as well as they ought to be.' 'Is it impossible that the incoming crop of the United States, can exceed twenty-five hundred thousand bales ?? The loss from storms and rains has been very great, yet it is impossible to estimate this with any degree of exactness. Tim cotton would be less effective by a frost at this time titan any previous year 1 remember to have observed. In 1851, lite drought was partial, while con tiguoiis districts and even plantations were visited by plentiful showers. In 1839, the spring and summer were unusually favorable?neither too wet or too dry, and all the crops were unusually advanced and promising when the showers ceased about the middle of August.? The remainder of the summer not being unusually warm, and the nights and days approximating equality of duration, the evaporation of the day did not so greatly exceed what was returned in the night. But the drought of this year was so serious in the spring as to cause the crops to he about three weeks later than usual.? | it again commenced about the 10th of July, and the summer has been about the warmest I have ever felt throughout the United States, and the drought extending Imoat over the entire area of our country. If an average crop is made this year you may set it down that cotton ia proof against beat and dry weatber, rather courting both.'
