I Latest from Mexico. iProgreaa of the Revolution?Defeat of Alr&rea?Acapulco Blockaded. The steamer George IjOW, from Aspin wnll' arrived at New York on Monday last. We extract the following Mexican intellU i gence from the news she brings: Tho Dtnrio Official gives the general account of an Action nt the Cajnnea. between Santa Anna and Alvarez. It says that the I troops of Alvarez were driven from their position by those of Santa Anna with the | bayonet only, the luttor not firing a gun. I From this point Alvarez fell back to a pass called the Puerto del Coquillo, defended in t front by a river of difficult passage, with heights in the rear difficult by nature and ,. strengthened bv fivesmnll field works; those were manned by from a thosand to twelve hundred men. LM Sunt* Anna marched upon thorn with ncAr 6,000. Approaching their position, he threw BE? across tho river, above the pass, o select W< corps of light troops?some 240 stroog?attac*lng them in the flunk with these, while ?itL ft- - ? * ? *' I^imi tits main iorcea mo passage 01 me river and assaulted the bntteries on the heghts with the bayonet agnin Tho contest npjwars to have continued near three hour*; not all the time of course, with the bayonet, we must suppose; but, nevertheless, the contest seems to have been obstinate?how bloody, it is dstticult to any. Finally, tho several works were nil carried, and tho enemy put to flight in utter 1 confusion, making their way, it is not yet known whether into the wild mountains around, or back ward toward Acapuleo. They were pursued on all sides, and it seems to bo confidently expected that Alvarez will fall into the hand i of the victors. The despatches which give these particulars were sent off immediately at tho close of the fight, and say that for that reason the number of the killed and wounded on either side cannot ; he stated. In n_ slighter subsequent affair ( between two detaced parties, the Mexicans teport that they routed about two hundred x?f tho followers of Alvarez, killing about < (twenty of them. i The New York Ilcrnld learns from the i burser of tho John L. Stephens, that tho port of Acapuleo is closely Ulockaded by two armed vessels under French colors, hut under Santa Anna's order*. Santa Anna, with , his army, was in the neighborhood and it was expect d would make an attack, on the < :27th ult COMMUNICATION. Mr. EniToit:?I noticed, in the last issue of the Lodger, that my nanle is put in nomination for tho Stato Senate by "Taxahaw, and vicinity." 1 ain thankful to my friends n that quarter fur the honor they would do mc, and grateful for the interest they manifest in my promotion ; but I must beg leave respectfully to decline the nomination.
