His friends are glad to greet . him at this happy season. , j The Sunday school of the Baptist 'will give a Cmnstmas tree at the .church tonight ; for all children '14 years and younger and all 'of the grown-ups will gather to see the chil dren enjoy the occasion. Mrs. James S. Byrd and children -went to Columbia Sunday to remain throughout the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. John Fitzmaurice, Mrs. Byrd's parents. Dr. ' Byrd will join them Friday for a few days. Bishop Guerry was. at the Episco pal church on Monday evening and delivered a very effective discourse on the Supreme Need of the Saviour. Those who went expressed them selves as helped and b?nefitted by his words. Quite a number of persons -from other denominations ?ttended the service and enjoyed it. The drop in cotton has been great but the decline in the price of horses .has been still greater .Two horses, pings of course, sold before the Court House at public outcry Monday morning for $3.25-one for $1.50 and one for $1.75. Poor indeed, is the man these days who cannot af- , jford to own a horse. The Advertiser shares in the prac tically universal hope that early in the new year there will be a tnrn in the lane and a shifting of the clouds that will let in the sunshine of pros perity. The officers of the Presbyterian Sunday school will give a Christmas tree at the church next Wednesday ?vening for the children of the Sun day school. Not a sack of commercial fertili zers has been moved this fall and it is not likely that any will start early in the new year until there is a con siderable reduction in prices. With the present outlook for. 1921 farmers can not pay high prices for fertilizers or labor and make ends meet next fall. Rev. R. Bf. Tucker, the new pastor of the McKendree church,' was a vis itor here Monday, having accompa nied Mr. F. P. Walter to Edgefield. He is making his home with Mr. .and Mrs. J. M. Shaffer, who are not only two of the best members of McKen dree church but two of the best peo ple in the county. Mr. Tucker serves two other churches besides McKen dree. A Very Worthy Cause. Our fifth page is devoted this week to setting forth the needs and suffer ing of humanity in a remote portion of the world. Read what is said and you will be* convinced that our peo ple should share what they have with those so much less fortunate.
