A PROCLAMATION. The State of South Carolina Executive Chamber, Columbia. 1. Whereas, a petition has here tofore been duly'filed with the Gov ernor of this State as provided by law and signed by at least one-third .of the qualified electors in thc area proposed' to be cut of4 Ifrom Edge field County and annexed to McCor mick, which is described in said pe tition as follows: DESCRIPTION OF TERRITORY 2. Begin at a cotton-wood tree .on the west bank of Stevens Creek; ^thence the Edgefield and "McCormick ."County line to the South Carolina ^ind Georgia States line in the Savan nah River; thence the South Carolina and Georgia State line in the Savan nah River to old Parry's Ferry; thence a straight line North 24 de grees East to a stake X3N on the "west bank of Stevens Creek; thence "up the west bank of Stevens Creek to the beginning point. 3. Whereas, the report of the Commissioners appointed as required by law to ascertain whetheY or not .the requirements of the Constitution and Statutes governing and regulat ing such matters have been and are ?complied with has been made and filed with the Governor and shows that all of such .requirements are complied with, which report, conclu sions and findings are fully concurr ed iin .and confirmed ; 4. Whereas, under the laws of this 'State the petitioners, having ful ly complied therewith, arc now en titled to have an election ordered and held within this area upon the ques tion of cuting off the proposed area and annexing the same to McCormick County, 5. The Commissioners of State ? and County elections for Edgefield County are directed to make all nee- . essary arrangements for the holding ?of said election, including the ap- i pointment of managers to conduct' , the same, the publication of this proc , lamation in one of the newspapers published in Edgefield County for three successive weeks, the canvass- i ing of the returns, the declaration , of the resujt and the certification of the same to th? proper officers as re quired by law. Miss Helen Tillman Honor Guest at Miss Miriam Norris' Reception. The reception of Friday afternoon, October the 8th, given by Miss Mir iam Norris was the first of a number 1 of affairs to be given in honor of Miss Helen Tillman, whose marriage to Mr. Preston Whight of Cincinnati is to be a brilliant event of November the third. Mrs. Hugh Mitchell and Miss Gen evieve Norris received at the door. Little Marjorie Mitchell and Emily Dunovant pinned dainty cards on the guests, which sounded the key note of the color scheme, the rich yellow of autumn forest and field. Miss Marjorie Tompkins and Miss Elizabeth Rainsford were at the re ception door, conducting the guests to the receiving line. Receiving with the hostess and honoree were Mrs. Mamie N. Till man, Mrs. Lovick Smith, Miss Rose la Parker and Miss Gladys Padgett, their lovely light evening gowns con trasting with the rich gold of the golden rod, used so profusely in the artistic decorations. Miss June Rainsford and Miss Snow Jeffries invited the guests into the dining room where Mrs. R. G. Lee and Mrs. W. L. Dunovant, Jr., presided. A dainty lace cover was on the tea table and yellow ribbon in which sprays of the golden rod were caught were suspended from the chandelier. Misses Isabel Byrd and Helen Nich olson served block cream with rich black fruit cake, followed by cof fee, with whipped cream. Little Per rin Mims handed silver dishes of mints, finishing the elegant course. In the living room, Miss Ruth De Loach and Miss Katherine Mims pre sided over the bride's book, in which each guest registered. Miss Norris was a charming hos tess, her artistic touch, an inheri tance from her mother's gifted fam ily, showing in many pretty details. \ Third Division Woman's Mis sionary Union. The Third Division W. M. U. held a very profitable day at Plum Branch on Saturday, October, 9, when Mrs. J. M. Bussey, their efficient and ear nest President had charge. The meet ing began promptly and the children from several Sunbeam bands gave" selections. Mrs. Ralph Winn presi dent of the soci?ty gave a very cor dial address of welcome, and Rev. M. Kugley, pastor of the church made a talk full of practical and sug gestive merit. The dinner was served on the Methodist church grounds, as tables had been constructed for the Dis trict conference which was to be held the following day. If the Methodists and Baptists of Plum Branch are as near in heart as they are in 'the proximity of their :hurch buildings, they are very close together indeed. After a delightful lunch and wo men are getting to be better cooks ;very day, the meeting was resumed it the Baptist church. Mrs. J. L. Mims and Misses Grace and Emmie Lanham of Edgefield attended. On Saturday, October 23 begin ning at 10:30 o'clock there will be a meeting of the mission societies in the churches of the third divison, which are Berea, Bethany, Bold Spring, Edgefield, Gilgal, Stevens Creek and Mountain Creek.
