Mrs. E. S. Rives and little Lois have gone to Sumter for a several weeks' visit. Mrs. Jerald LaGrone and her two little children are visiting relatives in Darlington. Rev. P. P. Blalock will preach in the Presbyterian church Sunday morning at eleven o'clock. In the second election last Friday ?Mr. R. C. Padgett was re-elected warden in Ward 1. Miss Bessie Peatross and Miss Nor ton of Virginia, sisters of Rev. and Mrs. Peatross are visitors in Edge field. Mrs. L. J. Blakely has arrived from Ora to spend some time here with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. P. P. Blalock. Mr. and Mrs. L. T. May and their little children spent a portion pf last week at Ora visiting Mrs/may's mother, Mrs. William Hunter. The Edgefield Realty and . Auction Company were very successful in their sale of the Cobb property near the trestle Tuesday. Dr. A. H. Corley and Dr. J. S. Byrd a::e in Columbia attending a meeting of the State Dental Asso ciation. Mrs. A. E. Padgett returned to Greenville with Mr. and Mrs. Nor wood Cleveland ls.st week and is still in the Mountain City, a delightful place to be this sweltering weather. Miss May Rives entertained last Monday afternoon from four to six at a delightful party in honor of her friend, Miss Edmi Holman of Cam eron. Sheppard, Mr. Frank Reese, Mr. Paul Cogburn and Dr. B. F. Jones motored to Spartanburg Monday to attend a meeting of the State convention of the American Legion. Cephas P. Derrick has returned from a successful session of work at the University of South Carolina and is spending .a few days with the homefolk at Pleasant Ridge. He will leave the 15th for Tennessee, where he has accepted a position for the summer months. Work has commenced on the new ' Lynch store. Mr. W. S. G. Heath has the contract and he will carry it for ward without delay. The walls of the Peoples Bank building are also steadily going up. These two modern buildings will be an ornament to Edgefield.. Dr. and Mrs. Eustace Prescott were welcome visitors in Edgefield Saturday, having come up from Charleston to visit relatives here and at Colliers. Dr. Prescott is still in the naval service, where he is gain ing some valuable experience in his profession. He is making a record of which his Edgefield friends are proud. We were pleased to learn yester day that Mr. Wallace T. Prescott has been elected cashier of the bank at Scranton, S. C. He has been employ ed several years as superintendent of the school at Scranton and made a fine record in that position. His be ing engaged to serve the bank as cashier is a high compliment to him. Edgefield men, it matters not where they go, always work their way to the top. Mr. Jerald LaGrone and Mr. R. C. Padgett made a business trip to Sa vannah Saturday. Mrs. Samuel Craig is here for a visit of some weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Cogburn. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Beman of Au gusta are here visiting Mrs. Beman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Key. Mr. E. E. Padgett and Miss Pearl Padgett have gone to White Sulphur Springs, Virginia, to spent some time. If you want a player piano write to Mr. J. A. Evans and little George accompanied by Robert Ouzts, have gone to Montreat, N. C. for the month of June. A meeting of the Civic League will be held Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock in the library rooms. Capt. P. M. Feltham has been Mrs. H. N. Greneker as District Secretary for the Woman's Mission Society of the Methodist ohurch and Miss Mamie Dunovant attended the conference last week in Winnsboro. Burns who has been tak ing a special post-graduate course at Harvard University during the ses sion just closed, arrived in Edgefield Monday to spend some time, having joined Mrs. Burns here. Mrs. Corrie Adams and Miss Susan Adams spent one day last week in Edgefield. Miss Susan has recently re turned from her studies at the Salis bury Normal and Industrial where she took a high stand. We are pleased to learn that Edge field county has two more fine young citizens in the making, Hill Ready and John C. Watson, of Johnston, who have completed their course at 'Wofford college and have' received their diplomas. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Key came over from Columbia yesterday afternoon to spent some time here with Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Key. Mr. Key's friends here, and everybody in Edge field is his friend, are delighted that he is steadily improving from his re cent serious illness. That the people 1 of Edgefield school district are willing to be tax ed to support their school was shown by the result of the election Friday. | In voting upon the question of levy ing two mills additional school tax the vote was 59 for and 1 against the levy. The merchants, banks and other places of business have agreed to close for one hour each day, from ll to 12, while the revival services at the Baptist church are in progress. Master Mobley Sheppard is in Edgefield to spend his vacation with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Or lando Sheppard. The following announcement has been received in Edgefield and w?l be of interest to friends. Thomas Ed ward Barnes, June 2, 1920, Lan sing, Michigan, seven pounds. Mrs. Barnes was Miss Ethel Lanham. Miss Ellie Miller Lanham and Mrs. T. B. Lanham have gone to Lansing on a visit and later Miss Ellie Miller will go to New York with Mr. and Mrs. Barnes on a visit. Major W. A. Collett has given up the position which he held in Augus ta and has come to Edgefield to plan for the opening of a well-equipped drug store on the first floor of the ho tel next to the lobby. Mr. W. A. Strom will be associated with him in business. They have also rented the new store room next to their drug store. Their plans for this store have not yet been announced. At night Mr. Taylor will preach at the Trenton Methodist church. The entertainmfent which was giv en at Red Hill last Friday night was a pronounced success. The acting was highly creditable and the receipts at the door amounted to $47, which was very good, considering the very small amount charged as admission fee. very cordially greeted by his Edge field friends. He has secured a dis charge from the army and is now in civilian life again. Capt. Feltham j is permanently disabled from the wound he received but his friends rejoice that the consequences have not been more serious. The -officers and teachers of the Methodist Sunday school have ar ranged to give a picnic at Salter's) Pond for the school to-morrow. All who will attend will meet at the .church at ten o'clock to go to the pond in automobiles. A very pleas ant outing this will be for the chil dren and young people. For County Commissioner. Another aspirant enters the race for county commissioner in the per son of Mr. H. J. Yonce of the Long Branch community. Mr. Yonce is a young man who is energetic and pro gressive, always managing his per sonal affairs with marked ability. If J chosen by the people of the county to serve them in I*..'- "apacity he will render the best possible service. Du ring the campaign Mr. Yonce will meet with the people in all parts of the county, Revival Services. Interest is steadily increasing in the revival services that are being) conducted in the Baptist church. Dr. W. M. Vines of Norfolk, Va., is do ing the preaching, in- the forenoon at ll o'clock and at night at 8:30 o'clock. The song leader is Mr. Frank McCravy, with Mrs. McCravy as ac companist on the piano. The public is invited and urged to attend these services. It is Dr. Lee's desire to see the members of all the churches united in the evangelistic services, coming together as one people. Very Pleasant Motor Trip. Mr. W. A. Pardue was here Mon day and told the Advertiser's repre sentative of an interesting motor trip that he took with his family through south Georgia into Florida a week ago, going primarily to purchase building material first hand. Mr. Par due is a large contractor and he saves ? the middleman's profit. He says the crops all down through Georgia, al though usually two weeks earlier than ours, are not as far advanced as they are in this county. He saw j farmers picking weevils from cotton in a number of places. Mr. Pardue J was very favorably impressed with the good roads of Georgia. Orders Solicited. G, Miss Ruth DeLoach a Viva cious Hostess. On last Thursday evening Miss Ruth Deloach was hostess at a love ly tea. The guests included the mem bers of a Bachelor Maids' club, which furnished a great deal of enjoyment j to its members. The DeLoach home on Columbia Avenue has been most charmingly remodeled and was most attractive on this occasion with its tasteful adornment of potted plants and cut flowers. A delicious tea was served by the hostess who was assisted in her hos pitality by her sisters, Misses Annie and Ethel DeLoach. Expression Class. Since I have been. interviewed by several people concerning the teach ing of Expression, the art/ of the spoken word, which deals with the imagination, good speech, literature and with the development of one's own individuality, I have decided to offer a course during the months of July and August to any who may de sire to take lessons.
