Bee Keeping Coming to the Front. County Agent Camile along with E. S. Pr?vost, of Clemson College, has been getting some important work done in the bee industry for . the past two seasons. Since the price of honey has been so promising and sugar as high as it is now bee keep ing has been very promising. The fol lowing are demonstrators working with bees in this county: Messrs E. J. Mims, J. L. Mims, A. F. Covar, S. M. Mays, Boyd Timmerman, and Dr. B. F. Jones and Mrs. Mamie N. Till man of Edgefield ' and Mr. L. R. Branson of Cleora; Messrs. J. R. Smith, M. M. Padgett, Monroe Swear ingen of Trenton and Mr. L. Mike Herlong of Johnston, R. F. D. Many people still insist that bees cause damage to fruit, and some even assert that bees damage crops by sucking nectar from the flowers. Careful investigations prove that these beliefs are not only not true ?bnt that bees are a great help in pol lination of flowers, thus making crop production possible. Bees do not puncture fruit and suck the juices. Observations of trained investiga tors prove that bees visit fruit and suck juices only after the skin- has been broken. Many bee-keepers are disappointed at the failure of the entomologists to meet requests for help. It is phy sically impossible for the Extension i Service bee specialist to meet prompt ly all of the numerous requests, and no schedule of his services can be promised except to the demonstra tion bee-yards. However, anxious bee kepeers can be assured that every minute of his time is employed :n getting about as rapidly as possible to answer calls for help. Good queens will probably be scarce this season, and all bee-keep ers desiing queens should place or ders promptly for July delivery. Club orders will get queens at great ly reduced rates. Means Southern Trade Ex pansion. Nashville, Tenn., May 29.-It was in Louisville and Nashville that the Southeastern port boosters got their real heartening encouragement. . These cities "whooped things" up in truly enthusiastic style. Louisville j practically said that every pound of freight she had for export would go through the South Atlantic ports. In Nashville the reception was even more enthusiastic. Editorially the Nashville Tennessean said: "Nashville is the guest today of 125 live business men from South At lantic parts. They are returning from a two weeks' tour of the large cities of the Middle West, where they have carried the message of the advan tages their cities have to offer as ports for foreign trade. "They have little reason to present arguments. Their case states itself. It must be obvious to anyone that the closer route, the open gateway for any freign trade from this sec tion, is through these ports instead of New York. "This is especially the case for shipments bound for South Ameri can countries., Savannah, Ga., Jack sonville, Fla., Brunswick, Ga., Wil mington, N. C., and Charleston, S. C., furnish the natural outlet for foreign trade from this part of the United States. Nashville welcomes the visitors. The advantages to accrue from the diversion of this trade through the South Atlantic ports are mutual. Nashville must handle much of it in passage, while the port cities will re ceive the advantage of its transmis sion when it reaches them. Develop ment of this idea will mean further expansion of the South and its in dustries." NOTICE! STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, COUNTY OF EDGEFIELD. Whereas, a petition has been filed and all legal requirements having Leen met, it is hereby ordered that the regularly appointed Board of Trustees of Edgefield School District No. 25, do hold an election in the Court House Friday, June il, 1920, for the purpose of voting upon the question of levying and collect ing an additional special tax of two (2) mills on the dollar of all taxable property within said district, pro ceeds of such an additional levy to be nsed for school purposes in Edgefield District No. 25. At this election only such resident electors as are entitled to vote in Gen eral Elections* shall be allowed to vote.
