The Victory Liberty Loan. To the People of Edgefield County: For the fifth and last time our Government appeals unto its people to invest in war bonds for the pur pose of raising money with which to defray the expenses as incurred by extensive expenditures and prepara tions for winning the recent German war. As Chairman of Edgefield County, t I wish to appeal to the people of our I County and say: "Do as you have done in the past and the patriotic banner of old Edgefield County will float aloft throughout the ages of fu ture history; will you floatJt, or will you trail it in the dust of humilia tion and regret? We have floated her historical banners of the past; can we refuse or neglect to float her appor tioned Victory Liberty Bonds of the present? No! a thousand times-no! cries our pride and patriotism. All undertakings incorporate the embodiment of the initiative, the * cone' i.sion and the result; the begin ning, the end and the reward. Our initiative has been an overwhelming success through the initial efforts, bravery and co-operation of our vic torious and unconquerable armies, unto whom all honor and praise is hereby ascribed; victorious, because they knew that they were backed up by the people at home. The Hindenburg lines liave been hurled into the rar?ks of ignominy, humiliation and defeat; his vast mili tary hordes conquered and vanished;! the terms of the Armistice dictated; . the enemies' navies towed into the ports of the conquerors; kings and emperors dethroned; the dictator and instigator of this most brutal and in human war removed from the throne of Autocracy and oppression, and in ducted into the private ranks of citi zenship as a sawer of wood. We have completed the beginning generously and gloriously; can we now afford to be denominated "doubt ful patriots and poor citizens" be-* cause of our indifference or unwill ingness to see the war through to a finish and carry our share of the bur den? What shall dur answer be? Let our bravery and patriotism answer! Let's complete the finish most glo riously, and most generously, and the~' trophy of reward will be assigned to"! . us in such terms and measure that J our posterity will ever greet with a j smile the historical records and allu sions to our patriotic efforts and service Isn't it woith t"he price? A small financial investment, not sacrifice, contributed by a son to the freedom and support of his country; an exten sion of the hand of help to a Victo rious Democracy! We rught not, we cannot, we must not fail in striking the last blow to the hand that forced an entrance in to the sacred realms of our woman ' hood; empaled infants upon its bayo- . net; severed feet and hands from the j bodies of helpless, defenseless and in-1 nocent children. Can we so soon f or-| get it? No, not the people of Edge field County! , This conclusion is .compulsory rel ative to our country or the reward,^ will be lost; also, will be lost to the j man who fails in this hour of need j and appeal to do his duty, but forever " and eternally assigned to the patriot ism of him who acts well his part. Will you consign your body to the tomb of regrets? Will you be a slack- !' er? Or will you respond heroically to your country in its appeal for !: ;lp, ! realizing that should you not do so the opportunity will be lost never to j be presented again, and you will have ] failed in rendering "unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's" The officers said to our boys in . charging the Hindenburg line: "Hold them boys!" The response came in thundering tones-"We will hold them!" The officers said: "They mustj" not pass!" The boys shouted-"They shall not pass!" Victory followed! Most earnestly do I proclaim and ? appeal unto the sons and daughters of old Edgefield County: Rally to the support of the future historical j reputation of your County; sustain the Victory Liberty Loan appeal of your Government; shout forth the e ternal slogan : "We must, we will sus- J tain the Victory Liberty Loan; it shall not fail" to the blood-crying voices of our boys from the battle- j fields of France, crying, "Are you ] still with us?"
