Mr. Ouida Patterson is at home for the holidays from Anderson college. The Advertiser publishes this week the second and last installment of the very interesting letter of Miss? Sue Sloan. All of the college boys and girls ?will arrive the latter part of the week for their Christmas vacation, giving new life to the old town. Mrs. N. 'G. Evans and Master George, Jr., left Monday to spend the holidays in Macon with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rhodes. Send all of the Edgefield soldier boys a Christmas card, letting them know th3t you often th'nk of them while away. Unless you pay up what you owe on subscription, your name will be dropped when The Advertiser's list is revised. Belter pay up at once. Mr. and Mrs. J. Carroll Cogtmrn will make their home in Johnston after the holidays. Their Edirefield friends vvill give them up with great reluctance. Let all of your letters and cards of the Christmas season bear a Red Cross stamp. Mr. J. C. McManus, Jr. went to Columbia Thursday and volunteered __Xor service in the Navy. We con fidently expect to hear that "J, T." is making a fine record. Ex-Gnv. John C. Sheppard and Hoy. J. Wm. Thurmond wen? to Saluda Monday on legal business. Mr. O. B, Anderson also accom panied them as stenographer. All of the merchants are having a good holiday business in spite of the cold weather. The salesforce of nearly all the stores has been in creased for the Christmas rush. Buy a war pavings stamp or thrift stamp for the children fora Christmas present. This will en courage them to save their money by purchasing additional stamps. Mr. William Warren Hill who has been transferred from Camp Jackson to Camp Sevier bas been made a sergeant, bei?g thus reward ed for faithful discharge o( duty. Mr. M. Leslie Edmunds, son of of Mr. and .Mrs. A. A. Edmunds, was among those who went to Columbia last week and volunteered for military service. Ile will make a good soldier. The Presbyterian ladies were very successful with their bazaar Tues day, the sum of ?00.00 being real ized for their treasury. These very zealous workers never fall short of success in whatever they undertake. Among the Edgefield shopper?; in Augusta Monday were Mr. and Mrs. -J.,B. Kennerly, Mrs. C. E. May, Mrs. J. A. Townsend, Mrs. J. C. Hughes, Miss Virginia Addison, Mrs. Hattie Adams, Miss Lillie Adams and Miss Lillian Patterson. While under the quart-a-month law just one-fourth the whiskey is being shipped that was shipped here last Christmas, yet the quantity is still too great. Scores of persons are orderinu it for medicine who were never in better health in their lives. Mr. Henry Cartledge Adams, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Adams, who reside naar Augusta, was run over by an automobile in Augusta recently and had his 3nkleshattered, being carried to the University hospital. He is improving rapidly and wiil soon be out again. Recent ly Mr. Adams was called for military service and passed a better physical examination of any others who were examined at the same lime. His later injury by the automobiles will probably disqualify him for military service. Just before closing our forms the announcement of the d?ath of Mrs. Frances Hoi eton, mother of -Mr, W. L. Holston, was received. She will be buried at Red Hill to-morrow, which i* the eighty-second anniver sary of her birth. The membership committee of the Red Cross chapter held a meeting Tuesday afternoon and each member made a very encouraging report. Miss Pearl Padgett is leading in securing new members. A full re , port, giving the names of the new I members, will be made in the next issue of The Advertiser. Lieutenant James Thompson is here visiting his grandmother,.Mrs? Kate Butler, before reporting for duty at the aviation camp in Hous ton, Texau. Notwithstanding the fact that James is only 18 years of age, he has received a commission in the aviation branch of the milita ry service. Union Meeting Postponed. On account of the severe weather the union meeting will not be held at Stevens Creek church on the 5th Sunday in December. However, the church still invites the union to m?et with ir, so the next regular meeting will be held at Stevens Creek church the 5th Sunday in March. Many Yet Delinquent.
