However much the Edgefield dele gation to the Press association likes Beaufort, they say Earnest Padgett likes the place and some of the people very much more. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Prescott and Mrs. Julia Prescott motored to Springfield for a week-end visit to Mr. and Mrs. Jumper, the parents of Mrs. W. T. Prescott. Mr. D. Buist Anderson of Moore, Spartariburg county, accompanied by his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson, visited rela tiues in Edgefield last week. In spite of the many and varied backsets, give cotton favorable con ditions during this month and Aug ust and a good crop will yet be made. But what about the com? That is the crop in which farmers should be interested most. Trenton: Please note that instead of preaching in Edgefield this Sun day a. m., 1 will preach at ll o'clock in Trenton and preach the fourth Sunday in Edgefield. Change made on account of protracted ser vices in Methodist church. Because of the increasing number of brick residences, the street lead ing from the public square south ward will have to be called Fifth Avenue, this street in New York be ing noted for its "Brown-stone Fronts"-millionaire residences. Mr. and Mrs- James Killings worth of Dunbarton and Mr. and Mrs. James Youngblood of Augusta spent the fourth with Miss Tillie Youngblood and Mrs. Nannie Grif fin. Their brother Mr. Frank Youngblood of Ellenton spent several days with them last week, also. i Automobiles are great road build ers but if a number of large farmers and country merchants begin to use auto trucks for heavy hauling a greater stimulus will be given to road building. It appears to us that some of our country merchants who haul large quantities of mer chandise from Edgefield and who also haul cotton and cotton seed to Edgefield, could profitably use a heavy auto truck. Mr. T. J. Paul has sold his brick building near the Presbyterian church where he conducted his garage to Dr. J. G. Tompkins and the garage will be continued by Mr. James H. Tompkins. He is a first-class: machinist himself and by employing capable help he will be able to take care of all the business intrusted to him. Mr. Tompkins will make this one of the best auto hospitals in this part of the country. A Surprise Marriage. A marriage of much genuine in terest to many of our people oc curred in Columbia Sunday after noon. Miss Ethel Losan had been spending several weeks near Hart ville with friends and while return ing home Sunday she was met in Columbia by Mr. T. H. Whitlock and they were married. The de tails concerning their marriage have not yet reached Edgefield. Tues day they returned to the home of the groom about five miles below Trenton. The Advertiser joins their host of friends in extending sincere congratulations. Will Go to Lockhart. Mr. Wallace T. Prescott has ac cepted the superintendency of the hitrh school at Lockhart, Union county, where Rev. J. T. Little john is now serving as pastor. It is probable that Mr. Prescott will move his family to LocKhart about the first of September. While we have all along realized that Mr. Prescott is capable of filling a larg er place than any school of the west-side can offer him, yet we regret that our county is to lose such people as Mr. and Mrs. Pres cott. Their place cannot easily be filled.__ An Interesting Preacher. From a long and personal knowl edge of Rev. B. R. Turnipseed of Columbia, S. C., it gives the writer great pleasure to assur. this com munitv that they will be well re paid by goin<r to hear this earnest man of God. Let me suggest the mistake of waiting until the end of the services to begin attending and then say, "I am so sorry." This visiting brother is assisting brother Gunter. Presbyterian Manse. Card From "Uncle Iv." I just want to say A. S. Tomp kin's piece in last week's issue was tine 3nd I agree with him from start to finish. Would to God there were more who had the man hood and moral courage to take up for the young lady teachers. They are noble and self-sacri ficintr and without them many a dark place would be found without school advantages. Thank you, Arthur, come again and do the old man good. "Uncle Iv." Harlem, Ga. Card of Thanks. We adopt this means of express ing our profound gratitude to our friends and neighbors for the many kindnesses during the late illness ol our mother, Mrs, Belle Ouzts. We regret that the funeral notice was not given as large circulation as should have been given it. Again we express sincere appreciation foi the many thoughtful acts of oui friends and hope some day to be able to reciprocate. J. P. Ouzts, \Y\ G. Ouzts, G. O. F. Ouzts, Mrs. Charlie Cheatham, Mrs. R. E. Morgan. You're managing to wake up earlier these mornings." "Yes, I've just bought a parrot.'' "Instead of an alarm clock?" "I already had an alarm clock, but I got so I didn't pay any atten tion to it. Now I hang the par rot's cage in my room and put the alarm clock under it. WThen thc alarm goes off it startles the parrot, and what that bird says would wake anybody up."-New York Sun. Kow To Give Quinine To Children.
