A very pleasant occasion at Col lieis on August the twenty second was the celebration of the twenty first birthday of the twin daughters Misses Eva and Effie, of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Adams, of Colliers. At 8:30 the guests began to assemble at the home of these hospitable peo ple where they were received by the fair honorees who were daintily gowned in white lace. The house and grounds were beautifully decorated, and being pa triotic young ladies, they used the national colors, red, white and blue, which was well carried out in deco rations and refreshments. The lawn was artistically lighted by Japanese lanterns and was made attractive with swings, hammocks and cozy corners. The hall and parlors vere embowered in South ern Smilax, beautiful potted plants and the national colors. On the front veranda a picturesque booth had been arranged in which stood Mr. Robert Adams and Miss Agnes Rowland, who dispensed punch throughout the evening to ?he guests. The forms of entertain ment consisted of progressive games, the first being a memory test of the spelling days of "Auld Lang Syne," seeing how many words could be made from 'The Twins." The prize was awarded to Miss Ann McKnney Rowland, who made the greatest number. The next was a contest of Geographical and Biblical questions- The prize was given to the table and had to be drawn for and was won by Miss Anna Ham mond. Then followed a recitation by Miss Agnes Rowland who showed herself skilled in expression. The popularity of these young ladi ' was fully attested by the number of beautiful gifts which they received. About sixty guests were present, and Mesdames. D. T. Mathis, E. B. Mathis and W. G. Wells assist ed in enteuaining them. The re freshments were block cream, in red, white and blue, the cake being in the same colors. At a late hour the guests bade their hostess a re luctant good-bve and turned their faces homeward, but the pleasant memories of that evening still lin ger with us. Pretty warra, but cool I guess in compari son to the hot times across the At lantic. 1 read the grand jury's re port and in my poor judgment the Edo-efield officials are hard to beat. I know and honor all of them. But the clipping from the Spartanburg Journal made me think about the families from which the editors of both papers came. I just thought, well, they had to be the right kind of men or renigged from the high standard from which they came. Yes, anything I read or hear about auybody from old Edgeheld makes me feel good. Why?-because I was once one of them. (We think of you as one yet.-Editor.) I am not yet as fat as Gus Edmunds but am about the same. I do hope South Carolina will put her same governor back. Don't think she can improve on him. "Uncle Iv." Harlem, Ga. Automobile Insurance. E. J. NORRIS. BOARDERS WANTED: Con venient location in private family. Fuller deserves special praise for the management of affairs coming under his supervision, it be ing a fact that all school claims have been settled to date, with no out standing indebtedness. Through his efforts and the co-operation of citi zens in rural districts, new buildings have been erected and equipped with modern furniture ai:d fixtures, with comparatively little cost to the dis tricts and county. We would urge upon the citizens of our county, first of all, the education of our boys and girls. See to it that you have a con scientious body of trustees and ef ficient teachers; consider it a duty fjqually as important, to visit your school as to attend your church, and make an effort to surround your child with advantages which would fit him to respond to the demands of a business world. R. L. DUNOVANT, Chmn.
