PRESENT MODES IN LINGERIE Best Form of Brassiere Is of Embroid ered Flouncing-Handsome Pet ticoats With Lace Inserts. A brassiere made entirely of em broidered flouncing has a V neck, sur plice front, with a few bones on each side and center front and back, no other waist being needed under a net blouse. A short brassiere has a nar row frill of lace at the lower edge, and is cut almost straight around top and bottom, with flat shoulder straps, and fastens in front. Camisoles, which are brassieres made with the little shoulder caps, en circle the body with a tiny frill of net above, not reaching above the arms, with ribbons over the shoulders. This lace is fastened to a narrow piece of doubled net, with beading through which ribbon is run. Very thin length wise strips of em?roidery may form a -camisole, with lace three inches wide across the top. They fasten on the left side. Little chemi-ve^ts to be worn next 'to the flesh are made of nainsook, crepe, china silk, lawn, etc.. and are 24 to 29 inches long and without an inch of extra material. An embroid ered scallop on the edge is the pret tiest finish. Hand embroidered nainsook flounc ing makes handsome petticoats, with lace inserts. A silk model of a petti coat bas a full length gusset of silk Jersey at every seam, which gives with the wearer's movements, and yet the garment clings closely to the fig ure. Tango petticoats are of the fine crepe de chine with a side plaited ruf fle of chiffon beaded with tiny flat roses. FOR WORKERS IN EMBROIDERY Raffia Effective for Almost Any Pur pose to Which lt May Be Applied. Something very new, easy to accom plish and giving delightfully satisfac tory results is raffia embroidery, lt is effective when worked on plain white material In soft shades of blue raffia. Including dark blue, pale blue and a third shade of a decidedly greenish tint to lend variety to the work. This effective embroidery is used on screens, trays, fancy boxes, cushion covers and other articles too numer ous to mention. For a foundation any loosely woven white material answers well. Cotton crepe serves the purpose admirably, but as it stretches consid erably during the process of working it is necessary to use an embroidery frame. The design you wiBh to transfer should be placed behind the material, which is semi-transparent, and traced through. Blue water color paint makes a nice outline, a fine brush be ing used for the work. The raffia must be soaked in water for a short time before using to render It Boft and pliable. When used damp it is not so liable to split. Crewel needles are the kind to u?e for this work. The method of work ing is extremely simple, satin stitch being employed for the most part, though many outlines are formed of strands of raffia laid on the surface and couched down with narrow threads of raffia of the same color. Gloves. Nothing gives a smarter finish to the costume than good gloves, and if they are inferior they are the means of spoiling in other ways a satisfac tory toilet. It is economy to have them made to order and buy them several at a time. A light fawn shade is more elegant, makes the hand less conspic uous, and goes better with a greater number of dresses than does white. For Congress.
