To Fix Licenses for the Town of Ed g en eld on Business, Oc - cu pa tic ns and Professions I From July 15th, 1909 to July ? 15th, 1910 and to Provide for j the Collection of the Same. Be it Ordained By The Town Council of Edgefield, S. C., And By Authority Of Same. Sec. 1 That the following licen ses on business, occupation and pro fession to be paid by the person or persons carrying on or engaged in said business, occupation or profes sion shall be levied and collected for the term ending July 15th, 1&I0 payable July 15th, 1909 or within thirty days thereafter, and execu tion with a penalty ten (io). per cent upon the amount of said licen ses shall be issued and enforced for all such licenses unpaid at the ex piration of that time. Provided; that persons entering into business, occupation or profession prior to July 15th, 1910 shall be required to take out a license as provided for persons who are doing business in the town of Edgefield, S. If it be a firm, shall contain the name of the firm proposing to do busi ness under same, and all- the names of individuals composing such firm. If it be a corporation, it shall con tain the name of the corporation and the officers of same, r Any. person or persons carrying* on business or occupation or run ning any establishment named in this or preceding sections, withcut having taken out license therefor as herein provided, upon conviction shall be fined not less than one dol Jar, nor more than one hundred dollars per day, or fraction thereof^ or to be imprisoned in "the county jail, or be sentanced to hard labor on the streets or the public works of the town for a period of not less than one nor more than thirty days for each and ' every day, or fraction thereof, such business or profession is carried on withcut such license. For any business, call ing, occupation or profession not enumerated in the foregoing, a li cense tax of not more than $25 shall be paid to the clerk by person, firm or corporation engaged or run ning same. All licenses issued un der this ordinance shall be posted in a conspicuous place on premises where business or profession is carried on, and subject to inspection at any and all times by the officers of the town. Any person or persons failing to post said license shall be subject to a fine of not more than five dollars or imprisonment for not more than ten days. i Any firm or officer of any cor poration making any false or fraudu lent returns where a return under oath is by this ordinance, required, shall, upon conviction, be fined not less than twenty-five dollars nor more than fifty dollars or be im prisoned not more than thirty days nor less than thirty days at the discretion of the mayor. Any person, firm or corporation liable to the license tax herein be fore set forth, whose said tax is regulated, by the amount of busi ness done or the amount of stock carried, ^required to make a return under bain "to the clerk of the town council on or before the 15th day of August, 1909, and on failure so to do, such person or1 officer or agent of such firm or corporation shall be liable to a fine of not ex ceeding one hundred dollars or im prisonment not exceeding thirty days for each and every day or fraction thereof such person, or officer, or agent aforesaid shall te in default of making such returns. s All licenses issued under the fore going sections are NON TRANS FERABLE AND WILL ONLY PROTECT THOSE TO WHOM THEY ARE ISSUED.
