Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Lowrey, of E ?stover, S. C., are spending this week at Velma with the former's mother, Mrs. W. B. Lowrey. Mr. J. B. Adams says he has' re cently been to Plum Branch, Au gusta and Edgefield, and that the prospect is that more corn will be made in the county this year than for several years before. The Advertiser has received a let ter for publication from Plum Branch signed "Lily of the Valley," but the real name of the writer was not given. The name, however, is not published when request is made to withhold it. An Error Corrected. It was recently published . in somc-of the newspapers that Mr. W. E. McGee had been transferred to Charleston as division passenger agent of the Southern railway, which is an error. Mr. McGee is still in Augusta, as" traveling pas senger agent and Mr. J. C. Lusk is division passenger agent with head quarters in Charleston. Entertainment at Horn's Creek. I The ladies 'of the Missionary So cietyof Horn's Creek church will sell ice cream at the church Tues day afternoon, July 20th, beginning at five o'clock. After the refresh ments have been sold there will be a lecture and stereopticon views} for which every one is requested to bring a ?Uver offering. The ladies of the Horn's- Creek .section never do anything-by. halves, so all who go can he assured in advance of* a very pleasant afternoon and evening. Mrs. Alice Doolittle Boish. From the time she received the cruel wounds, inflicted by the hand that should have protected rather than smite her, the friends of Mrs. Bush hoped for her recovery. Fi nally, she grew worse and all hope was abandoned. Death came Tues day morning and the interment took place Tuesday afternoon at Red Oak Groige, of which church ^he was an afl^ive member. Mrs. Bush was a devout, Christian wo man, greatly beloved Dy her neigh bors and-ja large circle of friends. As thc end ajpjproached, her pastor. Rev. J. The Woman's Missionary Society | of the Baptist Church will have an open air meeting in Mrs. Walter | Holston's grove, adjoining the Bap tist church, at their regular monthly time for meeting, Friday afternoon at five o'clock. Notice of Election For Public Cotton Weigher. Notice is hereby given that the undersigned County Board of Com missioners will hold an election* for the purpose of selecting a public cotton wether for the town of Edgefield, for the ensuing terra of two. years. Said election will be held at Edgefield on the third Monday in August 1909, being the 16th day of said month. All qualified electors who ra?rket cotton at Edgefield and who reside in Edgefield county, will be allowed to vote. The polls will open at 9 o'clock a. m. and close at 4 o'clock p. m. on said day. R. C. ?S Committed- Suicide Up to the time the editor of The Advertiser left last week for Green ville to attend the Press Association only^very meagre information had been received in Edgefield concern ing the death of Mr. George Bush consequently the issue of last wee! did not contain a full announcement. Since our return from Greenville we have learned the particulars. George Bush met death at his owr hands. His body was found aboul one mile north of Plum Branch bj a dozen or more citizens who wer< looking !for Bush to arrest him The ball from his pistol, which wai lying near his body, entered hi: head back of the ear. The repor of the pistol was heard by negroei who were working near by. Busl realized the enormity of the crime he had committed, and rather thai suffer the penalty provided by lav for such a crime he committee suicide.
