FOR THE HOUSEWIFE ! For Tan and Freckles. The following is efficacious1 in. re moving tan and freckles and is cooing to' the skin: Tincture of benzoin, due ounce; tincture of musk, two drams; tmcture of ambergris, four drams; rec tified spirits, five ounces; orange flower water, one and one-quarter pints; Another cream that is highly recom mended to prevent and remove frec kles, and discoloration, soften and whiten the skin and prevent roughness ls the .following: Pure honey, lour ounces; glycerin, one ounce; rectified spirits, one ounce; citric acid <pure), three drams; essence of ambergris, six drops. Mix: the honey and glycerin by gentle .heat, add the acid and then the essence of spirits. When th?^first mix ture is cool put the two together and agitate until well mingled. These mix tures are good for the hands aB well as the face. - V Hanging Pictures. Xever hang pictures against'a back ground of figured wall paper unless the figures are small and indistinct If the design is large and stands out it is better to hang no pictures whatever on the walls. Plain side walls make the best background for pictures, espe cially if the color is in one of the tints of. gray or tan. Few pictures look well If. hung high. Portraits especially should be hung on a level with the eyes. Do not hang in close proximity water colors and oil paintings or paint ings and. engravings. ' . r A Cooking Hint. Fruit will retain its shape better If in cooking four or five large marbles are placed in the bottom of the vessel before the fruit is put in it When 'the contents begin to boll, the motion cayuses the marbles to roll about and keeps the fruit from burning. , This marbles can be used quite as satisfac torily in making jam and catchup as in cooking fruit of any kind. . Some persons use a silver dollar for. the same purpose. A Simple Door Check. All that is required for a screen door check to keep it_ from slamming is a small rubber ball that can be purchased for a few cents. A stout cord is at tached sto the rubber ball and hung on a nail^driiven into the door casing. It 8CREEN DOOK CHECK. is hung at such a-point that only a portion of the ball extends in the door way, as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 2 shows ; the. do?r/?;trikinff the ball and. Fig. 3 the ball ^wingtog- dear.-of the door when the door is closed. Value of Whole Cloves. Sprinkled among furs and woolens and;under carpets and .rugs, they will be found effective if not superior to the fil smelling moth preparations. And if the housekeeper who superintends the canning of her fruit will put a quarter teaspoonful of whole cloves on top of the thin cloth which many wise ly place over the hot fruit before put ting on the lid, she will not be annoyed with the molding of her fruit The Dinner Table. The most elegant and attractive din ner tables are seldom the most elab orate ones. Linen which has the, gloss, of good laundering, china and silver, which shine from perfect care and a few flowers or a Jardiniere of ferns in the center make a more impressive dinner table than the more elaborate ones ornamented with lace "and rib bons and expensive centerpieces. Pillow For an Invalid. To prevent bed sores and insure a comfortable bed make a pillow that will reach from shoulder to hips, not ton wide, of some ^smooth material, such as sateen, etc. Fill with whole flaxseed. This will never lump or get hot or be in. a,ny way uncomfort able. '. Split Hair. A hair which is split at the end has ceased to grow. All split hairs should beV cut Off fbr several inches to make them healthy. Singeing Is better than cutting, but one must be experienced before" attempting the latter method. To Wash Cut Glass. It Is necessary to have a soft brush In order to keep the cracks and, crev ices of cut glass perfectly clean. Wash in hot water with soapsuds and am monia, rinse in clear cold water and wipe dry with a very 30ft cloth. Household Hints. If comforts and quilts are dried In a good-stiff breeze they will be as light and fluffy as when new. Colored French handkerchiefs will not fade If they are dipped in salt wa ter before the usual washing. Salts of ammonia mixed with lime will take ont stains of wine from silks. .Spirits of turpentine ls equally good for the same purpose. Gum arabic starch is obtained by pour ing booing water over ?e gum arabic, then diluting It to the right consisten cy. It Is an excellent starch for pieces that are starched to dry and must not be ironed. Your Patronage Solicited. I desire to notify my friends and the public' generally that I have purchased the Barber Shop on the corner from Mr. A. J. Davis and will conduct a first-class shop at the same place.
