Tis hard to say with the immortal Pope : "One truth ie clear. Whatever is, is right." Stand By The Cotton Growers* Association Instead of Sully. We would caution the farmer^ not to follow after strange gods, such as Sully, the Wall Street speculator. Bettor by far stand by the cotton growers' association which had its origin in the south, is composed of southern men, chiefly cotton growerp, -and has only one aim : the promotion first, last and always-of the agri cultural interests of the south. The present prosperity of our peo ple, in spite of tb.J short .".rop, is due almost eutirely to the work of thia association. It is true that Mr. Sully put millions into the pockets of the cotton producers two years ago. That, however, was incidental. A.B a manipulator or speculator he was a "bull" and for a" time had eyery thing going his way ; as a re sult, the farmer?, as well as Mr. Sully, were benefitted. But there is no deny^pg the fact that he is a reckless speculator and, like all of his class,' is liable to change his coat any day: Today he is a ^j?i?^a^^?^^l^?^^^l'^Q^ l^^^ttV&^^fit?^lOK pf pocket' "change put it in' 'the treasury of the cotton growers' association rather than send it to Wall Street gamblers. Dispensary or Prohibition. The following words by Rud yard Kipling, the poet, ought to be read with greatest interest by every father in our country. We are now on the eve of an election which will decide whether we are to have in our county a dispensa ry or prohibition; whether we shall allow whiskey sold according to law, or whether we shall by a vote of the people protect our young men and young women from this temptation which is now dragging so many down to destruc tion. Kipling was not a prohibition ist, he drank his wino and boer, till he Baw that by his life he was helping on the ruin of so many others. In this way he became a prohibitionist out and but. I be -Hev? that no one who will weigh the subject in the light of interest in the morals of our young people can do oise than cast a vote for prohibition. Lets do what we can and save our young people from strong drink. J. D. Chapman. Kipling says: "The other sight of the evening was a horror. Better it is that man should go without his beer in public places and content himself with swearing at'the nar row-mindedness of the majority; better it is to poison the inside with very vile temperance drinks, and to buy lager furtively at back doors, than bring temptation to the lips of young fools such as the four I had seen. I understood now why "the preacher? rage against drink. I have sail: There is no harm in it. taken moderate ly;" and yet my own demand for beer helped directly to send these two gir s reeling down the dark street to-God alone knows where." The foregoing .is a communica tion clipped from the Anderson, (S. C.,) Daily Mail and is apropos to the situation in Edgefield coun ty. If you believe, as Kipling did, '-,hat your drinking helps directly to send olhers to ruin, give it up and help to remove the temptation by voting put the dispensary. A. Reply From Dr. J. T. Hading feels that I have done him or his Bank any injustice he knew where to find me every day in the week, Why did he not come face to face like a mau and as a gentleman and ask of me proper explanations ?
