Liberal contracts made for thr?e, six, and twelve months' WEDNESDAY. MAY 20, 1903. WE are not given to proph esying, but, mark it, real estate will advance fully 25 per cent in Edgefield with in less than 12 months from the day actual work on the college begins. EVERY barrier that has stood in the way of the erection of the college build ing has at last been removed and there is no doubt but that, ere the arrival of the opening day of the next session, the new building will have been completed and ready for the 120 students who will knock at its door for admission. WELL, well, after keep ing our people on the anxious bench for four months, the supreme court has opened its "bowels of mercy" and filed an opinion on thc school bonds. It was a favorable opinion,of course, just as every one expected. For which we thank not the j supreme court ot South Caro-I lina but the Supreme Ruler of the universe, who, being cognizant of the falling spar row, surely directs the build ing of colleges and the up building of communities. . THE farmers of this coun ty can get a farmers in stitute for the asking if they desire it. All that is neces sary is an application for one signed by 15 farmers. Who will take the lead in getting up a petition to be forwarded to Prof. J. S. Newman, of Clemson college? If a one horse-farmer who cor iucts a one horse farm be allow ed to sign it the editor of the ADVERTISER will gladly be -Sfl?rQ? 4? 15 ^loners. It tor nothing", yet we are con fident that much good will result |from i t. Don't all speak at ?nee. VERY soon - alas, too soon-that inexpressi bly sad word, "Good-bye", will be said to the teachers tnd students of the S C C I. We shall miss them from our hearts, from our homes, from our churches and their merry voices will be missed from our streets. But, thank Hea ven, there is a silver, yea, golden, lining to the dark cloud. After the lapse of only a few *hort months they will return/-accompanied by their brothers, sisters, cous ins and friends^-and will re ceive a very, very cordial wel come as they are ushered into the handsome, new college building that will tower above the rugged oaks of the old historic grove. TEACHERS of Edgefield, the county summer school which begins on June 10th cannot be a success un- ! less you attend-it needs you 1 -and you cannot be a sue- 1 cess as a teacher without at- . tending-you need it also. If we could get every white teacher within the borders of our county to realize the truth, the gospel truth, of the foregoing statement the 'sum mer school would be the lar gest and most successful one held in years and,on the other hand, the teachers would do more satisfactory work dur ing next year than ever be fore. We believe in paying teachers well and,at the same time, we believe in requiring them to equip themselves and render the best service possi ble. All teachers that are worthy of the name will at tend the summer school from the opening till the closing day unless providentially kept away.
