GREENWOOD has com plied with the conditi ons upon which the removal of the Williamston Female college depended and will soon begin the erection of the buildings which will be ready for the next session. FEW BENE FITTED. ROOSEVELT, in feath ering his political nest by posing as the friend of the colored man, has sown to the wind and the race, whoie make-believe friend he is, is reaping the whirlwind. A dispatch from Webrum, In diana-note the locality, too, please-says that the entire colored population of the town have been driven out. In all other localities the slightest friction between the races has resulted in deeds of violence. This is, of course, all wrong but it is the natural outcome of the Rough Rider Presi dent's rule-or-ruin policy and his turning the deaf ear to the earnest entreaties of the white population. The White House philan thropist may aid a few dozen of the colored race but his shortsighted policy will cause the remaining nine millions of the race to suffer. This out side interference in the solu tion ot the race question will tend to make the southern, in fact, all, white people more exacting,and less latitude will be given the colored race. The New Depot. The committee appointed by the League met Supt. P. I. Welles on Wednesday af ternoon last. It was evident from the outset that Mr. Welles was anxious to comply with the wishes of a majority JOHNSTON. Happenings of Interest from Our Neighboring Town. Mr. and Mrs. Saxon, of Augus ta, vieited Mrs. White on Friday last. Mr. and Mrs. Harrie and little! Ruth visited the home folks Satur day and Sunday. Judge MobJey returned from Tennessee on Friday last bring ing his bride with him. This was a great surprise, but a cordial wei-j come is extended th? happy couple. Prof. C. E. Chambliss visited this community recently to see about the gram pest. His infor mation was exceedingly interest ing. This inseot is a loupe, and has done much damage, but its enemy has come and its days ait numbered. A larger insect comes along and deposits an egg in it, which feeds on it. The lady bug is also its enemy. The number and damage done by these lice, is con trolled by climatic influence. The New Century club met at| the residence of Mrs. W. S. Mobi ley. An excellent paper by Mrs. Seigler, on "The children of today] the men of tomorrow," selectioi read by Mrs. Mobley. Recitatioi by Miss Clara Sawyer.
