I. girls at their home on Saturday afternoon last. It was a very pleasant occasion both for hosts and guests. Before adieus were bidden all repaired to the diuii g room where tempting viands and refreshments were Berved. For j some days prior to the eutn oi this bevy ot beautiful girls into his home Mr. Mims was on the sick list but the diversion of the occas ion and his effort to appear seven teen instead of seventy dispelled all aches and pain?. Is there a malady that would not be cured be holding pleasant converse with and feasting ones eyes' upon 27 pretty girls? The annual meeting of the stock holders, and directors of The Farmers Bank was held in the back on Tuesday. The same offi cers and directors were re-elected. We publish in this issue the an nual statement of this prosperous institution. A comparison of this statement with that of last year will show how marvelous and uu precedented has been the bank's growth. Let the figures speak for themselves : Last year the depos its were $83,128,01, now they are $121,916,11; laxt year the loans aggregated $154,856,42, now they $192,907,88. The net profits for the j year are $8,460,36 or lte per cent. ! This phenomenal success can be accounted for in"two words, "Good management"-on the part of the officers of thr bank who are to be congratulated upoi* BO good a showing. -.JOHNSTON. it is doubted by many to have been smallpox. We are pleased to find so lew prisoners in Jail. We find the Jail has been recently white-washed and is in a neat condition. It has been brought lo our attention by the County Physician that the pris oners in Jail poould be provided with cots to sle^p on, and especially should they be required to take a bath and change their under-cloth ing at least once a week as it is dangerous to the health of the in mates fiom a hygenic stand-point and upon examination we recom mend this suggestion of the County Physician should be carried out, if nacessary, at the.expense ot the County. We also find that there Uti?--niw^ ? 'mm commend that the same be attend ed to at once. We find the roof on the rear end of the Court Houeo is in bad condition and this should be immediately repaired. Weare informed by some of our memberswho are in position toknow that the bridges across Stevens' Creek at Prices Mill and Clarks are n a dangerous condition and we 'ecommend that the proper au ;horities put these brides in a safe :ond ?tion at once or they may be sarried away by tL.e next highwa er. The County Home Committee re >orts to U8 that they have' visited he County Home and found every hing in a satisfactory condition ["hero are eighteen inmates 9 whites nd 9 colored.
