BAKING POWDER PURE el?c?ous and wholesome iwDER CO., NEW YORK. CAMPAIGN SNAP SHOTS. The candidates motto; "Seek first the votes and all things else will be added unto jon.1' Pictorial good roads literature has been very much in evidence I at every campaign meeting. Trapp ^McManus, who is devel oping into ft real orator, says that thiukingupa speach and speaking it are two different things There are 30 matriculates in the county summer school of oratory -the campaign. AVho said oratory had declined ? If some of the candidates can ! get a vote for every baby they have kissed they will get the'plum on the first ballot. The Red Hill meeting was open I ed with prayer by Rev: G. W. Bussy who served the Red Hill church as pastor for 28 years. Mr, Evan Morgan's exordium at Red Hill was: "I am . now fifty ?eight years of age and I rise to make my maiden speech as a poll 'tioian." The members of Red Hill church realized on Friday last quite a nice sum for their bdliding fund by sellingrefreshmentsaud barbacued dinner that would would please the most exacting connoisseur. Two babep=-but not twins. Mou ton Smith styles himself the baby candidate for the legislature and Willie Byrd is oalled the baby caudidate of the race for superin tendent of education. A' trio of Johnston citizens) Messrs.Bean? Coleman and Waters each had a hand i" presenting tye orators at Johnston. Mr J.F.Rettis preformed this offioe at Trenton, and Judge L. G. Bell was mine host at Red Hill. The Nestor of the campaign, is Mr. Evan G. Morgan, Sr., Gus Edmunds, by pomnipp popseut, in cluding biB own, is the olown of the itenerant*. But for him the same, ness and monotony would weigh heavily upon those who attend all the meetings. Op Thursday last tbe Trenton ladies prepared a veritable qjrona= tion dinner which they sold for the i benefit of the Baptist parsonage funds, This delightful repast was fit for the gods not merely the kings of earth. One of the candidates declared that too mucb money is being ap propriated for high art_education. We do like to appear so ignorant but must confess that this is ??be van t" us. Can someone inform us what "high art" education is ? At the conclusion of the regular programme at the Red Hill meet ing Dr. D. A. J. Bell of Paeksville, one of the good roads champions of the west side, addressed the audience. -We regret that it was np/, our pleasure to hear tl is gpeeoh, Gus Edmunds says that some ?of his brother candidates have grown so fat on their foraging ex peditions that they had to discard their old belts and buy larger ones. May be after the primary they w ill feel so small that they can again use the discarded waist band. This is the cleanest campaign ever conducted in Edgefield coun ty. Not au ounce of whiskey has been used, not a harsh word spok en, not a hard thought "thunk", not a campaign lie has been circu lated. Verily weare iu the shadow of a political millennium. S. M. Smith, Esq., says on the stump that he is a farmer, avowing thal he follows farming as a side line in order to. recoup what he loses in the practice of law. We hope that he growi corn and not cotton, thereby causing cereals and not the fleecy stap'e to decline in price on account of so tremendous a yield from such an extensive farm. Some of the candidates who made their first speech at Johns ton seemed to have tongues as thick and uuwieldy as a bull-tongue plow but now after some practice they are as glib tongued as a lawyer. As the campaign has progressed many leaden tongues have by that touch stone pratice, been trausrautde into silver tongues. I FAT TOO FAT PEOPLE Reduce Your Weioi Willi "REDUCTO."
