There are many improvements sorely needed in Edgefield. We need more cross streets, elec trie lights and a place for the farmers to hitch horses, and convert the present place in to a park, and stop Jews from using it as a salesground. No one will deny that the above mentioned things are neces sary for the upbuilding of the town. But what is needed above all else is a complete system of water works. As it is we are utterly helpless in cases of fire and are bound to stand and see our property go up in flames. If we had k'the > proposed waterworks system, our insurance rates would be greatly reduced, the health of the town would be unsurpass ed, we would be protected against fires, and the comfort of all increased. Now for , water works. baint Mat thews, a much smaller town than ours, has voted bonds to build a water works plant. The town was quite recently partially destroyed by fire, and the citizens saw the advisi bility of such a plant. Will Edgefield have to have a sim- 1 ilar object lesson to make her act ? No use in crying "high taxes," for the plant will pay for itself in the re duction of insurance, and the ' protection from fire. Study over the matter, citizens, and express your views through the columns of THE ADVER TISER. Joe Monday. Joe Mn oday, the famous lectur er and formerly an actor aad play wright, delivered one of the ablest and moet entertaining ltctures an Edgefield audience ever had the _ pleasure of hearing, in the Court ' House Sabbath afternoon. He is a scholar, an orator, a gentleman, and above all, a Christian. No one should ever fail to hear Mr Munday if the opportunity is ever ^ offered, no matter at what cost. 1 He is doing a good work, and if a man has money to devote toward evangelizing the world, it could not better be used than by employ ing Joe Munday to deliver such lectures as the one delived here to men onJy Sabbath afternoon. Remember tbe Orphans. We notice in the October issue of the Epworth Orphanage Record, the journal published in the in terest of that institution, a little notice that Thanksgiving day is approaching, and the orphans all enjoy turkey and other good things on that day. Fiiendo, remember the fatherless ones and send them a portion of the good& you have in ?tore. Remember that "it is more blessed to give than to receive." "Feed my lambs." Parents, e'er another Thanksgiving rolle around your children may be orphans. FOR RENT. i A new six-room dwelling-fresh ly painted-opposite side of street from Mr J M Cobb's residence.
