Miss Virginia Addison has been on a visit to Anderson, S. C. Mrs. D. Z. Dantzler is rapidly improviug from a severe case of fever. Mr. Luther White, of Johnston, led the Y. M. C. A. meeting on last Sunday afternoon. Greenwood County's first Court of Geueral Sessions will oonvene Monday, 15th inst. More rooms have beeu engaged at the Aiken hotels for the coming season thau ever before. Many people do not know the derivation of the word "fad." FAD means for a day. Ten barrels-of fish on Saturdays for sale in our public park is now the regular programme. Messrs. Folk & Folk are in their law office again, and it looks as new and bright as before the fire. Buggies are now so cheap that you can actually buy a braud new one cheaper than you a second hand one. President Hart zog says three hundred students has been enrolled in Clemson College thus far in the session. Store your cotton with Mr. M. There is considerable kickiug ou account of high taxes. It is hard to pay high or low taxes out of five .ceuts cottou, and we do noe blame the people for kicking. Mrs. Elizabeth Hammond, wid ow of the late Maj. Andrew Ham mond, has returned to her home after a long visit to her daughter, Mre. J. H. P. Roper, of the Elm wood section. The Jackson cotton, which has been recently creating such a furor in Georgia, is identically ths name cotton thaf, as inproved by our fellow townsman N. L. Brunsou from the old Dixon variety, was so popular a few years ago. Miss Effie Allen has returned from the swell weddin er of Dr. W. M. Boat wright and Miss Mamie Perry, which was celebrated at Batesburg last week. The Rev. A. C. Wilkins assisted by Rev. Jno. Lake, officiated at the marriage ceremony. Tompkins, Esq., who knot's a good thing when he sees it, telle the following incident of one of Sam Jones' sermons. He says that lin the course of one of his talks Mr. Jones asked that if there were any men in the congregation who had never had a cross word with their wives they would please stand up. Ten men stood up. "Please walk to the front," said he. They did 60. "Now, suid Mr. Jones, "please turu round and face the audience." Thev did this also. "Now, my frionds," said he, ad dressing the audience, "allow me to introduce to you ten of the big gest liars in the State of Georgia." This happened, of course, in the State of Georgia, couldn't have happened in South Carolina. U. D. C. A called meeting of the Maxcy Gregg Chapter, U. D. C., will be held in the Y. M. C. It ?B thought that the corn crop this year is bet ter than it has been for several years past. Since cotton haB gone up to 5 cents farmers would like to have another croy to commence on. Mr. M. D. Lyon, the popular merchant of Ropers, is doing a fine business, and handsome John P. Timmerman is always ready to wait upon the people at the store, especially the ladies. Mr. J. W. Mondy was thrown from his horse one day last week and narrowly escaped being killed. At this writing he is resting very well. It is hoped by his many friends that he will be out again soon. The ladies of Ropers are to give a very pleasant and interesting en tertainment on the 19th of Novem ber for the purpose of raising some money towards paying a debt now due on the parsonage. They very respectfully invite the people to come and help them, and promine to entertain them very pleaeently for a few hourB. One of the plays, "Blue Beard," is a very thrilling and interesting drama. They will also have the "Black Barber," a first class minstrel pie:e; this will be played by some of our best talent. There will be some very fine music by the band. Singing, duets, cornet solus, a negro stump speech on prohibition, and au original song about Ropersville, composed recently for the occasion, all go to make the eveniug the more enjoyable.
