Disastrous floods have visited China, destroying crops, an? drowuiug from 15,000 to 20,000 people. William C. Dreher of South Carolina, has been appointed consul at Markneukirchen Germany. Fire destroyed a portion of the State Industrial College, S. D., on the 6th, seven girls perishing iu the flambs. Horses cannot be hiied at any price in Whitman County, Washington, where 1,500,000 bushels of grain were harvested in one week r?ceutly. Tho grain was valued at $1,050,000, and the indications were that with good weather the next week's record would excel that, but it was almost impossible to get horses enough to cart the grain.
