No-siree?tT An Ancient Landmark. Mr. Stephen W. Maye, who died at his home in this county on Thursday the 23rd September, was one of the cid landmarks, eighty one years of age. He was a mem ber of Sweetwater Baptist church for thirty years previous to his death, and was a good citizen, an upright honest man. He will be greatly missed. Peace to his ashes. gome Removals. Mr. John B. Davis and family have removed to the house recent ly occupied by Col. Geo. B. Lake and family. Capt. Mat. Jones and family now occupy the Prescott mansion over in Buncombe; Mr. J. T. White and family has taken pos e-eosion of the house vacated by Capt. Jones. Col. Geo. B. Lake, with his fam ily removed to Johnston on last Thursday. Edgefield permitted the Colonel to leave on the sole con dition that he would still continue to spend 99-100 hundreths of bis time in our town. The Weak Cotton Market. Every year it is the same story. Farmers force their cotton to sale. Buyers are now at every important point in the South and their of ferings of cotton to their Northern and European houses are far in excess of the demand, and conse quently at lower prices daily. Th? Northern or English Spinner has only to let our people alone and he gets their cotton at his own price. Then when the bulk of the crop is out of the South prices will return to their proper level. The crop has been badly damaged eve ry one admits, and the world will need every bale that is made this season. Why then should we be in such a hurry to get rid of our cotton at prices that Spinners themselves admit to be too low?
