When the General Appropriation bill wa? passed iu the House, that body added to it. aif appropriation of $25,000 for taking the census. The Senate would not agree to this and returned tho bill to the House shorn of thia feature. Upon this there was finite A discu?Ton as tr? whether the House should recede or stand firm. Mr. Ready, Mr. Folk and Mr. Jones voted to stand firm, Mr. Blackwell voted to concur in the action of the Senate. On this qimtipn Mr. Ready was K.lowed threo minutes and he made an effective talk. He urged the mem bers to be firm. The House was clear ly in the right and should not give way. Colonel Folk delivered a very impressive speech in support of the action of the House. - He did not be lieve in weighing the question by ex pediency or by dollars and cents. The Constitution upheld the House, and he would never consent to back out because of the considerations which had been urged. Farmer Tillman, who has been pub lishing some very strong articles upon the management of .the Sooth Caro lina Colllege and the Agricultural De partment, continues to hold his own j. retty well against the big guns fired at him by the friends and officials of these institutions. They thought each time they replied to bim that he would be annihilated and would not dare to raise his head again, but he has'raised it, and has torn the bark on" of them in his replies. Ile has truth and justice on his side and we want to see him *' hold the fort" to the end.-Camden Journal. kcU of General Interest Passed at the Last Session of the Legislature.
