This widely-known and honored citi zen died athis beautiful hereditary home, Elmwood, where lie the ashes of his fore fathers, on Monday afternoon last at 6 o'clock-after a gradual failing of sever al years and a serious illness of some j weeks. Mr.~Nicholson, the eldest son, if we-mistake not, of a family promi nent and honored in Edgefield in its very earliest dava, was a man of remarkable practical vigor of mind, allied to stern integrity and great industry. So great indeed were bis practical talent and in dustry that he was throughout his life a wealthy man. From his youth, too, he was a worthy member of the Baptist Church-conscientious and generous al ways in the discharge of his duty to churches, preachers, and the cause of | Christ. Mr. Nicholson, if we not great ly err, had about reached his seventy second year. His surviving chil dren are Mrs. Bates, Mrs. Dobson and Mrs. Roath, of Ed gel: old, Mrs. Tanna hill, of Augusta, Mrs. Coleman, of John ston, Mrs. Boatwrlght, of Philippi, Mrs. Norris, of Elmwood, and Mr. Memmin ger Nicholson, of Antioch. Meeting of EdgeGeld Pomona Grange. From the Monitor, of last week, we learn this : The Edgefield Tomona Grange met at Pine Grove school house on Wed nesday, July 8th at 10o'clock, A.M., Worthy Master Ready in the chair. The committee cn Education submit ted their report, which proved to be a well cousidered and interesting paper. It was ably discussed by Bros. S. J. Edwards, J. A. Clark, Gallman and others, and tho following resolution was offered by Bro. Whittle, and supplement tue tree school fund by private funds, so as to run thc schools not less than five months. Upon motion, a recess of one hour for refreshments was taken, and the good ladies aud brothers ol' Pine Grove sustained the honored reputa tion they have earned of entertaining their friends, by the iiberal and abund ant repast that was spread, uud the cordial welcome given to all. Afternoon exercises, Worthy Master Ready in the chair: The committees on seeds and im plements and on farra labor submitted their reports which, after interestiug discussion hy Bros. They will march down, and all the commissary arrange menta will be in charge of an accom plished commissary officer. Tents have already been ordered, and the arrangements are bein^ completed foi a pleasant and profitable week. This is not purely a trip for pleasure but is one of instruction.
