THE LAND OF SLEEP. "Where lies the land"- Wordsicorth. '"'Where hes the land of which thy soul would know?" Beyond the wearied world, the songless dell, " The purple grape and golden asphodel. Beyond the zone where streams baptismal flow, "Where lies the land to which thy soul would go ?" There were the unvexed senses darkling dwell. Where never haunting, hurrying foot fall fell, Where toil is not, nor budded hope laid low. Rest ! Rest ! to thy hushed realm how one by one Old Earth's tired Ages steal away and weep, Forgotten or unknown, long duty done. Ah God ! when Death in seeming peace shall steep Life's loud turmoil, and Time bia race hath run Shali heart of man at length find re.^t and sleep ? pi uicooiuua. co.^-rrr and would Tony Pastor in Trouble, Tony Pastor, of New York, who is now with bis inimitable variety coni bin?'i.'ii miking a tour of the princi pal cir:es of the Union, is recognized as the leading character vocalist and variety performer of the United States. He owns and runs a first class theatre on Broadway, New York City, and has gathered about him the best troupe of variety artists that could be obtained. The com pany has just completed a brilliant engagement at the Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia, and af.er the present tour they will reappear in Tony Pastor's own Theatre in New York City. Mr. Peotor is the origi nator of his peculiar school of char acter singing, and has made himsei: immensely popular, having real i /.ed by his talents a large fortune. The writer of this article met Mr Pastor recently at the Bingham House, in Philadelphia, and found him as genial in private as he ii amusing before the public. During our conversation I inquired as to bit pny&icai health, and he replied that notwi'hstanding the strain upon hin in this discharge of his professiona duties, it was excellent. He had oc casionally severe pains, either the re sult of rheumatic attacks or cold? but any complaints of that charactei never troubled him long, as he bad found out a remedy for all such an noying affections. I asked what th? remedy was, and he replied, "St. Ja cobs Oil." I then learned from Mr Pastor that he considered the Great German Remedy an excellent pre paration for the cure or relief of rheu matism, and that it was about thc oaly thing used among professional people lor that distressing He touk bottles of it with ever he went traveling, anc not be without it, and knew that it was very popular with a number ol members ot his own company. A conversation held subsequently with varioub members ot the organization revealed the tact that St. Jacobs Oil h-d b<en performing most invaluable service tor them in the way ol curing them of rheumatism. Nearly ev ry artisL m the troupe used it, and wac; enthuHnauc in its praise, and the writer wa? really for-ed to the con ciuoiun tba! Tony Pastor was cer tainly m luck in having so valuable an article known aud employed by his inimitably good company ol per iormers, lor it enabled every one to be always in his place, thus insuring comfort to the management and gen uine eatislaciion to the public. To y Pastor would certainly be in trouble without St. Jacobs Oil. At leant, other managers whose artiste have been temporarily unsupplied, hwe noticed the ditieience hetween St Jacobs Oil in stock and St. Ja<-\bf Oil out of etock-among the merni er? ol their companies.-N.
