We regret to hear that one of our fel j^j/citiiens, Thos. J.'Ouzts. Entertainment of the Methodist Ladies. The ladies of the Methodist congrega tion,-desirons of raising funds to com plete much-needed repairs upon their Church, will give a brilliant and interest ing Dramatic Entertainment in Masonic Hall on Tuesday evening next-19th in stant Wexlo not err afr all when we say this Entertainment will be brilliant and interesting. The plays in rehearsal are of"Temarkable wit, humor and pathos superior in literary merit and dramatic fire to'ahy that haveb??n given in Edge field in many 'years. They consist of | the two-act Comedy, "Alt Is Not Gold That Glitters," and the one-act Farce, "Bamboozle/' The young l?dies and gentlemen to~"whom -the different roles have been entrusted, are working ardu ously to interpret5 the same with-taste and effect ; and as we have been honored by admission to a preliminary dress re hearsal, we can assure all who miss this Entertainment that they'-'will be-missing a very rare dramatic and spectacular treat. Inspiring music and a great variety of | delicious refreshments wUJ also form. important features of the evening. Grapes of three varieties, the Rose, the Warren, and the Green Muscat; Peach es, cling and clear, white, 3'ellow, red far the most beautiful we have seen this season ; and Sweet Potatoes, white and red, large and long. All these have been sent us, in one collection, by our kind and thoughtful friend, Mrs. Sam. Marsh. We admire her taste and enerby, and thank her emphatically for her kind re membrance. When the Tramway is built, what a Depot that fine Marsh piac-i will be like ly to become. Verily the Col. will have to build a regular Chinese wall ! The Rosy! Who does not remember Dick Swiv eller, in Dickens' Old Curiosity Shop, who drank much good, strong whiskey, and ins;sted upon poetically regarding it as "rosy wine," always speaking of it as " the rosy" ? Well, through the kind ness of our young friends, Messrs. Hugh Harrison and Glover Tompkins, ol' the new \ugusta Grocery Firm of ??lover, Stubbs ct Harrison, the Advertiser corps has been enjoying for several days quite an easy and liberal How of this same "rosy"-splendid ! unapproachable! su perfine ! . . We drink to the health and success of Glover, Stubbs ct Harrison. The G milite v il le Operatives on a Strike. For two days past, or pore perhaps, the operatives of the Graniteviile Facto ry have been on a strike; not for higher wages, but to compel the Company to pay them their wages every two weeks. The Company have for a long while paid them but once a month. It is said that the President is determined to resist the strikers and adhere to thc monthly pay ment. Up to last night, Tuesday, the operatives were still holding out. Of course we do not know tho views and motives of the President and Direc tors, but it seems to us that if the opera tivas wished it, such a Company could very well pay them weekly. Change of Time. On Saturday last, that obliging and very skillful caterer, Margret Lowe, pre pared a barbecue dinner at the Academy grove, to which many citizens of our community repaired, for a savory meal and a social chat. But Mr. T. P. Ash more, the Engineer, and his assistants, Dr. R. T. Mmaautd Mr. E. Reese, being present, the affair" very soon, and vory naturally, resolved itself into an infor mal Railroad Meeting. Mr. Ashmore stated that he was not quite ready to re port, but announced in very practical and intelligent style, tho probable cost of grading the wideband the narrow gauge Roads. Mr. A. J. Norris, Chairman ol' the Committee on Survey, Mr. W. W. Adams, Gov. Bonham, and others, par ticipated in a general Railroad talk ; and it was finally decided to hold a Railroad meeting ia the Court House, on Tuesday the 19th, at 2. P. M. The discussions, deliberations and measures at this Meeting will look ex clusively tb Che building of a Railroad from this place, to intersect the C. C. <? A. ?Railroad at the ynost practicable and available point. All interested in such an undertaking-and there should be many-are very earnestly urged to come forward and take part on Tuesday next. This Meeting may give us a Railroad, with all its innumerable blessings and advantages, in four or five months. The Abbeville Convention, if at all, can only promise us these in as many years ! We aro not poorer in worldly goods than other people in South Carolina who .have long ago built such Roads^. What then is the matter? W?'m hst be poof in spirit and in ambition. Now, if ever, let usL shake off this nightmare of dullness and stagnation ! At th,e Meeting on Tuesday, Mr. Ash more's Report will be read. And it is well worth hearing and studying. Our present mail arrangements are de- i cidedly inconvenient, and ought to be \ changed. As it is now, our Augusta mail, which reaches Pine House at about < 5 o'clock in the morning, is not delivered 1 there at that hour, for this point, but is j carried on to Batesville and there thrown off, to be returned by the up train from ; Columbia,, which train reaches Pine House at 12 M-making a delay of scrc?i ' hours in Hie delivery of our mail. We ' arc told that the fault lies solely with the f Mail Agents on the Railroad, and why j they should tims neglect their dut}'in ? this matter weare unable to ascertain; i but ii' they would make up our mail and 1 deliver it at Pine House at ? o'clock in- * stead of 12 M., they would greatly ac- v cotnniodate this community, not only in 1 enabling us to receive our Southern mail seven hours m advance of the present schedule, but also enable us to answer j letters received each day twenty hours earlier than we can under the present ar rangement. If tito Mail Agents do not correct this ' irregularity forthwith, we shall petition 1 the P. O. Department for redress, as this matter must be remedied. Our Augusta exchanges will study their own interests by ventilating thc above grievances, and assisting us in so- | curing this much desired seven-hour change ia the delivery of the mail for Edgeheld. .
