Feb 7 tf 7 Ayer's Sarsaparilla FOB PLJOM iTXAG THE 151.001). The reputation this ex rollent medicine cujoys Is derived from its cures, many ol' which are truly marvellous. Inveterate casca of Scrofulous dis case, where thc system seemed saturated' with corruption, have been purified and cured by it. Scrofulous affections and , disorders, which were ag gravated by thc acron lons contamination until they were painfully afflicting, have been radically .cured in such great numbera in almost every sec tion of the country, that thc public scarcely neel to be informed Of Its virtues or uses. Scrofulous poison is one of tho roost destruc tive enemies of our race. Often, this unseen and nnfelt tenant of tho organism undermines the con* st i tn ti on, and invites thc attack of enfeebling or fa tal diseases, without .exciting a suspicion of its presence. Again, ft seems to breed infection throughout the body, and then, on some favorable occasion, rapidly develop into ono or other of its hideous forms, either on the surface or among the vitals. In tho latter, tubercles may bc suddenly deposited in the lungs or heart, or tumors formed in the liver, or it shows its presence by eruptions on the skin, or foul ulcerations on some part of thc body. Hence tho occasional usc of a bottle of this Sarsaparilla, is advisable, even when no active symptoms of disense appear. Persons af flicted with thc following complaints generally find immediato relief, and, at length, cure, by tho u?e of this SARSAP.1RILLA: St. Antho ny's Fire, Bose or Erysipelas, Tetter, Salt Bheum, Scald Head, Ringworm, Sore Eyes, Sore Ears, and other emptions or visible forma of Scrofulous disease. Also in thc more co; cealed forms, ns Dysncjisia, Dropsy, Heart Disease, Fits, Epilepsy, Neuralgia, and the various Ulcerous a lit uti on s of tho muscular and nervous systems. Syphilis or Venereal and Mercurial Dis eases aro cured by it, though a long time is re quired for subduing these obstinate maladies by any medicine. But long-continued usc of this medicine will cure thc complaint. Lcncorrhcca or Whites, Uterine Ulcerations, and Female Diseases, are commonly .soon relieved and ulti mately cured by its purifying aid invigorating effect." Minute directions for cachease are found in our Almanac, supplied gratis. Rheumatism and Gout, when caused by accumulations of ex traneous matters in tho Mood, yield quickly to it, as alsoZircr Complaints, Torpidity, Conges Hon or Inflammation of the Liver, and Jaun dice, when arising, as they often do, from tho rankling poisons in the blood. This SARSA PARILLA is a great restorer for the strength and vigor of the system. Those who are Ian guid and Listless, Despondent, Sleepless, and troubled with Nervous Apprehensions or Fears, or any of tho affections symptomatic of Weakness, will find immediate relief and con vincing eyidenco of its restorative power upon trial. , . CARWILE, Druggist Aug 17 ly 34 Special Notices. \ Dr. SCHENCK advises Consumptives to go to Florida In Winter. Having for ta? lut tt?rty-flve vein devoted ny ?hoto tim? and attention to tho Btudy of lune dijeasei and con sumption, I feel that I understand fully the couru that ought to be pursued to restore a tolerably bad casu of dis eased lungs to healthy soundness. Tho first and mest important step is for tho p?tica", to aroid taking cold, and the best of all placet on this continent for this purpose, in winter, is Ilorida, well down in tho Stale, where the tem Serature is regular, and not subject to such variations as i morrN'orthern latitudes. Palatka is a point I can re commend. A good hotel is kept there by Eetennan. Lai t winter I saw several persons there whose lungs had been badly diseased, but wno, under the healing influonee of the climate and my medicines, were getting well. One hundred miles further down tho river is a point which I would prefer to Palatka, a* the temperature is more even and the air dry and bracing. Miltonville and Enterprise are located there. I should give a decided ?reference to Mellonville. It is two miles from river or ike, and it seems almost impossible to take cold there. The tables in Florida might be better, and patients com ?ilain at times, but that is a good sign, mMt Indicates a re ars of appetite, and when this is the4p> they generally increase in flesh, and thon tho lungs riftm heal, Jacksonville. Hibernia, Oreen Cove, and many ether places in vinous parts of Florida, can be safely recom mended to consumptives in winter. My reasons for saying so aro that patients are less liable to take cold ibero than where there is a less even temperature, and it ls not neces sary to say that wbero a consumptive person exposes him self to frequent colds be ls certain to die shortly. There fore my advice is, go well down into the State-out of tho reach of prevailing east winds and fogs. Jacksonville, or almost any other of the localities I have named, will bene fit those wno are troubled with a torpid liver, a disordered stomach, deranged bowels, sore throat or cough, bat far those whoso lungs are diseased a more Southern point fi earnoaUy recommended. For fifteen years prior to 1869,1 was professionally ia Kew Torie, Boston, Baltimore and Philadelphia every week, where I saw and examined on an average five hun dred patients a week. A practice so extensive-embracing every possible phase of lung disease-has enabled me to understand tho disease fully, and hence my caution in regard to taking cold. A person may take vast quantities of " Sohonck't Po!?nonio Syrup, Seaweed Tonic, and Man drake Fills," and yet die if ho does not avoid takinr poid. In Florida, nearly everybody is using Schenok's Man drake Fills, for the climate is more likely to produce bili ous habits than more Northern latitudes. It is a well-estab lished fact that nativos of Florida rarely die of consump tion, especially those of the Southern part. On tho other hand. In Now England, one third, at least, of the popula tion die of this terrible disease. lu tho Middle States lt does not prevail so largely, still there are many thousands of cases there. What a vast percentage of life would bo saved if consumptives were as easily alarmed in regard to taking froth cold as they aro about scarlet fever, small E)x, sc. But they are not. They take what they term a ttle cold, which they are credulous enough to believe will wear off in a few days. They pay no attention to it, and hence it lays the foundation for another and another still, until the lungs are diseased beyond all hope for cure. My advice to persons whose langs are affected, oven slightly ls, to lay In a stock of Schoucfc's Pulmonio Syrup, ScLonck's SoavuoJ Tonio and Sphenok's Mandrake Filia and go (q Florida. I reoommond tbtte particular modi? eines because I am thoroughly acquainted with their ac* tlc u. I know that where thoy are used in ttriot ac cord apoo with my directions they will do tho work that is required. Thii accomplished, nature will do the rest. The physician who prescribes for cold, oough or night-sweats, and then advises the patient to walk or ride out ovory day, will bo sure to have a corpse on his bands before long. My plan is to giro my threo medicines, in accordance with the printed directions, except in some casu where a freer use of the Mandrake Fills ls necessary. My object is to give tone to the stomach-to get up a good appetite. It is always a good sign when a patient begins to gTow hungry. I have hopes of such, with a relish for food and the gratification of that relish comes good blood, and With lt more-flosb, wbloh is closely followed by a healing pf the lungs. Thou the oough loosens and abates, thc creeping chills and clammy night-sweats no longer pros; trate and annoy, and the patient gets well-provided he} avoids taking cold. Now there are many consumptives mho have not the moans to go to Florida. Thc question may be uked, is there no hope for such f Cortainly there is. My advice to such is, and ever has been, io stay in a warm room during the winter, with a temperature of. about seventy dtgreos, vhbh should bo kept regularly at that point by means of a thermometer. Let such a patient take his ex orcise within the limits of (he room py walking up and down os much as his strength will permit. In order to keep up a healthy circulation of the blood. I have cured th'on sauds by this system and can do so again. Consumption is as euily cured as my other disease, if it ia taken la time, and tho proper kind of treatment is pursued. The fact stands undisputed OB reoord that Schenck's Pulmon?a Syrup, Mandrake Pills, and Seaweed Tonio have cured very many of what seemed to be hopeless cases of con sumption. Go where you will, you will be almost certain to find some poor consumptivo who has been rescued from the rory jaws of death by their use. So far u the Mandrako Pills are concernod, everybody Bliould keep a supply of them on hand. They act on the ltvci better than calomel, and leavo nono of its hurtful of??c?s behind. In fact they are excellent in all cases i here a purgativo medicino Is required. If you have par taken too freely of fruit ind diarrhoea ensues, a dose of the Mandrakes will cure you. If you are snbjoct'to sick headache, tako a dose of toe Mandrakes and they will re lieve you in two houri. If you would obviate the effect of a change of water, or tho too free Indulgence in fruit, take one of the Mandrakes every night or every other night, and you may thou drink water and eat watermelons, pears, apples, plums, peaches or corn, without the risk of being made Siek by them. They wlU proteot thoio who live In damp situations against chills and fevers. Try thom. They are perfectly harmless. They can do yon good only. I nave abandoned my professional visits to Boston and Now York, but continuo to seo patients at my office, No. 15 N. SIXTH Street, Philadelphia, every Saturday, from 9 A M. to S P. M. Those who wish a thorough examina tion with the Respirometer will bo charged five dollars. The Respirometer declares the exact condition of the lungs, and patients can readily learn whether they are ourable or not. Bat I desire it distinctly understood that the value of my medicines depends entirely upon their being token strictly according to directions. "In conclusion, I will say that when persons take my medicines and tboir Systems are brought into a healthy condition thereby, they ore not so liable to take cold, yet no one with diseased lungs can bear a sudden change of atmosph?re without the liability of greater or leos irrita tion of the bronchial tubes. Full directions in ail languages accompany my medi cines, so explicit and clear that anyone can use them with* ont consulting me, and can be bought from any drjrgiit. J. H. SCHENCK, M. D. o No. ic N.
