As malters now stand the Radicals are some ten or twelve short of a two-thirds in the Forty-first Congress. To do away with this overplus of Democrats and thereby put the ring io Grant's uose, should the General prove restive, id a prime object, and this is > ie way they mean to do it. Im primis, the word has gone out from Wash ington and waked into galvanic life a certain select decoction, five in number, of that learned body that, from the antecedents of its membership, was known as the Mississippi Chain-gang Convention. This decoction, styled committee, has all of a sudden dis covered that the negro constitution was not, after all, defeated in Mississippi by 7,G2(J Totes, as officially reported by the district commander, butVsevea strqog-aqtip?dtistitu tior^ccmnties being thrown out-was carriedr Wherefore the sail quintuple crew, in a re r~>N?eript dated the third of this month, announce that the affair has been " duly ratified and adopted," and divers carpet-bag and negro gentry elected as State officers and to Con gress. These latter resurrections being five (5) in number, it follows that, on the adop tion of this manifesto by Congress, as it will be adopted, the trooly loil will add at one fell blow fi-'e brand-new carpet bag votes to their depletea ranks. Further than this, it Los been ascertained, as a Washington special to ~the' Pox tis'good enough to tell us, that there was such rebeTlerrorism'' in Louisiana as kept the loi! negroes, who made bread and meat for the Confederate armies when they could not have boon forced so to do, from the polls. This means, of course, that a sufficient Humber of affidavits at $-a-piece have been prepared to make a good basis for cast ing out the five Louisiana Democratic Con gressmen-plscc, whereby it but remains f? r 'vW ioil io ou-t two, at mos?, th re,; more "^Democrats to get their two-thirds. This is soon doue, as it is now being "ascertained ' that in Georgia there was also a terrorism which lost the State to Grant. This done, out go seven Georgia Democrats, and Koi'a ! tho two-thirds. Then let" Let-uvbave peace" Wog bis head Johnsoniz-ngly at .us it lie dare, and we, unto whom is given thu ful no-s of the earth, not forgetting the two thirds, will show him on which side of the hedge shines the sun. What a little game it ia, to be sure.-N. Y. World. LACE COTTOX.-The Rusk (Texas) Ob server has tho following: This is the name of a new variety t f cut ton, introduced into this county by our friend. Rer. Jesse Carter. The seed was procured in New Orleans about three years since, and this season he will be enabled to furnish some for sale. Ile speaks of it as superior to any other varieties for poor or uplands, of a stron and healthy growth, and yields heavily. A letter from Mr. Murchison, of the pot tor, factory near Pa!est:nc, (Tesas,) publish ed in the Observer, says this cotton is superi or "JO any he ever worked-"one thread w.ll hoist 7? pounds weights-the best of Ameri can cotton will ho? t 5 pounds." Ile add3 : K 'Ar. Barritt, the Englishman that manages my factory, says the cotton you sent me re sembles thc Egyptian cotton, and is worth in England \ more than American. By com paring the staple with other cotton you will lind it longer, firmer and stronger." EXTENSIVE NEW PHOSPHATE WORKS.-We understand that a company, with a capital of $1,000,000, have leased the premises known as Biker's Mill, and intend to erect comraodi omi works for thc manufacture of fertilizers out of the Carolina phosphates, so plentiful in the locality. Buildings are no?.* in pro gress of construction, which when completed will cost $12,000. All the necessary appli ances of machinery for grinding and crushing the rock in its natural sta to are to be speedi ly obtained and put up. The wharf leading out. to the siream is to be strengthened, and a railway laid to facilitate the loading of ves sel,!, which will not be deterred taking in cargo at any tide, os the depth of water is sufficient under all circumstances. The ef fec; of the discovery of this important article is idready being felt; a house in New York that used to sell $50,000 worth of the fertili zer ia our midst alono, is storing their prop er! r. not only here, but even out we^t, as lar as Cincinnati-thc demand for the Carolina article" exceeding all clhers_-Charleston News. ^W^^i A most wonderful surgical operation was recently performed in Newton, Mass., being the removal of an ovarian tumor weighing pirety pounds, from the body of a woman agod 53 year?. The operation occupied one hour and ten minutes. The lady's condition ls critical, but the indications are tbat she wiil recover. The tumor had been tapped gaven timfs, and including the mucus nat ter removed from her in fourteen months, weighing more than five hundred pounds. The tumor extended nearly around her body. A quarter of a century ago nobody would have undertaken such un operation.
