The il.g of the 1st South Carolina Regiment S. C. i Volunteers was at Fort Sumter, whero the first gun of the revolution was fired, and ! those ol' the 12th and 14th Regiments S. C. j Volunteers were first unfurled in battle at Port Royal Ferry, S. C., on the 1st of Janua ry, 1S62, where they markt d with bloody ..ignilicance the advent ol' the eventful year which has just claped ; whilst the loth Regi ment and Orr's Regitnentof Rifles S.O: Volun teers have stood shoulder to shoulder with their comrades in all the great .battles fought by the army of Virginia, from Meehanicsvi Ile tb Frcdericksburg. The campaign of the year 18C2 is now en- [ ded, and no soldier engaged in it will ever i be ashamed to have it compared with any in I history. This now veteran brigade has made I many forced marches, suffered many priva- j tioas, and fought many battles. In the cause of the country they have done much to be proud of, but it) the same cause, they may be called upon tl do much more? C., Watchman, learns from good authority that a large number of deserters and tories have banded together in that section of country where the counties of Moore, Randolph and Montgomery join, and have committed numerous and serious distur bances against the lives and property of true Confederate citizen-'. Of course they will he speedily waited upon by such force, in au thority, as will bring their operations toa close. The New Ironsides, the Yankee iron-clad frigate now oft' Charleston,' is said by Donald I McKay, the celebrated ship builder of Bos ton, " to be the only iron clad in the Yankee I navy fit to go to sea on a cruise. ' She was J built in Philadelphia, and is constructed ?some thing Cn the plau of the English sea going iron clads. She is plated amidships so as to j pr^tejt her machinery, ber magazine and a I portion of lier gnus. Her forward and aft . endt ire not plated, but she is divided ?uto water-tight compartments, us to render it dif ficult to sink her by punching a hole in her sides. Her mensureineut is 2,GU0 tons, and her draft must be some twenty feet. . ?5ST* Governor Yance, of North Carolina, I has commenced investigating the conduct ol the shoe manufacturers of that State, and in every ouse where the provisions of thc exemp tion law has been disregarded, the offenders having failed to confine their profits to sev eoty-five per cent., bo has caused the. employ ers and all their workmen to be concsripted. Three of the largest establishments in the State have been cloavd in consequence of his proceedings, and all hands seut to.camps of instruction.
