A. DUEL TamS MouNKo.-Lieuts. Williama and Bell, United States Army, fought this morn ing, at Bladensburg, at half-past 8 a. m.- Shots were exchanged, the ball from Bell passing through Williams' hat. Williams, reserving his fire, lowered his pistol and fired in the ground The friends of the parties then interposed, and the affair was adusted on terms satisfactory and honorable.to bot terms. The principals in this duel were Lieut. David Bell, 1st Cavalry, and Lieut. Robert Williams, 1st Dragoons. Captain James McIntosh, Ist Cavalry, acted as secOnd for Bell, and Colonel Hardee and Lieut. Hill for Williams, we hear. Dr. W. H. Berry was the surgeon of both parties. This is the second duel only that has taken place petween graduates of the West Point Mili tary Academy. The first was between Capt. W. M. Graham (who was subsequently killed at Molino del Rey) and Lieut. F. Paige. G. was wounded sli ly. They were both of the 4th infantry.- Washington Star, 23d. Teeth extracted for a dollar a dozen. Goon Tzs-r.-Newspaper subscriptions are infalliable indications of a man's moral honesty. They will sooner or later discover the man. I f he be dishonest, he will cheat the printer in some way; say he has paid when he has not; de clare he has a receipt somewhere; or sent the money and it was lost in the mail; or will take the paper for ears without paying, and then move off, and leave it coming to le office he left. Thousands of professed Christians are dis honest; and the printer's book will tell fearful tales in the final judgment.-.Suthern Baptist. ET AL.- An Alabama correspondent of the Mobile Advertiser writes to that paper as fol lows: " A certain fat constable, in the country of C - w, State of Alabama, once received a writ from a Justice of the Peace, known as Josh M- c. The case was R-vs. D--e al. The good constable, who was more famed for his honesty than literary attainments, was sore I puzzled at et al. So, after keeping the writ or a week, he entered the Justice's office with much anxiety depicted on his countenance, and saluted Squire Josh, with this exclamation: 'Josh, who's the et al! I've been looking for him all over the country for a week, and I can't find him. I don't believe there's such a man in "How do you and your f.iends feel now?" said an exultant politician in one of our Wes tern States to a rather irritable member of the defeated party. "I suppose," said the latter, " we feel just as Lazarus did when he was lick ed by dogs,"7 THE COST OF THE INvsTIGATING CoMMITTEES. The congressional investigating committees will prove to be rather expensive affairs. They have already, it is stated incured an expense of forty thousand dollars, for which an appropriation is now asked, and they are not half through.
