E~DLroRs: It is rather late for i intti Corn and Cotton, hut as I think, my modeof'latinsg better than a great.many Farmers~bf "Old Edgefield," I will proceed to give it, know'ing a good thing never comes amiss. I laid of my rows six feet apart, (1 will mention that the lain1 was ini cotton last year) with a common rooter or scooter1 fourteeni inches long, and had it put in the groubnd. as deep as the largest size mule could pull it. I throwed four furrows to this -one with the same kind of plowvs. I then opened witia large and long solid sweep-dropped the corn about twenty-eight Sor thirty inches apart, and covered it writh a harrow with six teeth only, twvo wooden ones four inches apart in t'ront, and four iron Ones in the rear. The whole harrow runs inside of the furrow that opened the rowv. .1 Then split open the middle of the box with the same kind of a plow that I listed to the .row with, and instead of plowing out to the zow as is cotmmon, I plowed to center fur. row in the mniddle.* I commenced planting qn the seventh of March, and notwithstand -ing the heavy rains aed eold weather I got a fair stand of corn, while nearly all of my neighbours had to plant over. I run round my corn with a subsoil plow and throwed four furrows to it. I hoed and thinied to one .gtalk, and rather took the dirt from it instead of. putting more to it. My corn is now atanditng in a basin ferrow and looks fine and vigorous, whilst my neighbours looks slen. *evex. adi pale. I bedded my cotton land -withouglbreaking yearly. I had a seventy five aqrw field that the old grass wvas knee ,high, that I bedded twice,. I opened with * golf~r plow and run an iron plated block .in. the shape of a "V," in the same furrow ; rolled my seed and covered all to the two last, days, planting with a common iron tooth harrow. ~ The last twvo days planting I cov ered with my corn harrows. I commenced plantigg on the ninth of A pril, and I have a neD stan4~ of cotton notwithstanding the dry tim. wre have had, and frost. There are a fewr acres in my grass field that is not as good. as I could -wish-I have chotped 'ut all so far, before running round, and shall fitish chopping my entire crop this week. My cotton has from three to seven leaves *on it, and looks fine and.promising. The brands sent us were "-Sparkinig -Catawha," (still)"Ca tas ba,"and " Wine of the Schuylkill Grape," ind, so far as wecan judge, were all'very ex cellent samples of pure and unadulterated wine-such as we hope soon to have in Georgia and other States of the South, if Grape"Culture is prosecuted with the spirit and perseverance which it deserives. - e are hardly prepared to give our read ers a full or correct- account or. what .ia. already been dotne among us in 'his direc. tion; but we may memion that Mr. Axt who is the practical leader of the new en terprise among us-has already established extensive Catawba Vineyards near Dalton, Crawfordville,- Augusta and Washington, Ga.; at and near Moitgotnery, Ala.; ini the upper portion of South Carolina, and per. hlaps elsewhere; and that our neighbors on the other side of the Savannah, Gov. Hami. Mond, Mr. Lamar, and other genthi men, have entered largely into the culture of the Grape, expressly for Vine Making. The writer has also many thousand vines (if the difflerent varieties (Csatawba, Isabella, Wal. ren, Scuppernting. &c.) under cultivation, and intends -devoting. still more time and space to this most attractive aid promising branch of industry, hereafter. Dr-.McDonald, and our correspnndent, "A. C." (both of Woodward, S. C.) have been long and successfully engaged in Grape Culture and Wine Macking, oit anl extensive scale; and the Scuppernug Vineyard of Mr. Weller, of North Carolima, is too well known to need any description. The sai ple of " Warren Madeira" sent us, last year, bky our friend, Nelson, (from the vineyard of Mr. Leary, of Konmoe Co., Ga..) was pro. nounlced by two of the very best coinnois seurs in Atierica, to ie equal. if not superior to the finest imported article; and the trial of Axt's eight we, ks old - S ill -Catawia" last season, in this city, by most comipetent judges, was altogether satisfactory and en. couraging. We believe, from all the lights before us, tiat more Wifme and uf better quntity of land in the South, than in Euriope or at the West, aid that the Catwaba is by far our most promising Grape for the purpose. We ust not, however, be confined entirely to this variety, as the A arren, and perhaps the Isabella. may be found to produce wines which cannisthe imade fr.tn the former. The whole South is deeply interested in this enterprise, and we shall give it all the aid in our power. The coffee treei lives to a great age piro vided that the land is kept well udrainmed. T'he tree begins to bear when -three yeare old, amid is at its full bearinig uenr seveni years old. The tree is allowed to grow# ina hight fromt six to seven feet; the top branmches are prunied off w~henm the tree is five years old, so that by the time it is seven it resem-t bles a spread utmbrella. Each branch droops downw'a-ds, and titus gives the pickers a good cihance to pick the berry. Tlhe bloissoim is beautiful, small, amnd tender. It remnainmg ona the tree trom three to four days. If thte weather is wartm, withm showers, durimig those fewv days, the crop is sure; if coosl at niights, it iftenm falls. Whtem time berry is takent home from the field it is carried to a maill house. Tlhe mill consists of three smial rollers. The berry is put into a hopper, amnd a constant stream of wvater falls otn the rol lers during time titme the mill is at work. By this process tihe outside humll is taken offr aand the berry is separated front it, amid the coffe - falls into a brick tanik, where it is washed perfectly cleami, amid then ptut ott a iplace covered with tile or brick raised ina the etn ter that the,. water may draim. It is then takenm to the curing l10f1, w:inere it is turnied four timnes a day untill the huull is caisp amnd dry.
