WA LKER & JOlN JOlN SON, CIVIL ENG:NEERs. 1 3Il S M AP which is now prcsented to the pub . lie has been publish by J. H. CoLTox, udder the paitronage of the Legislature of the State of South-Carolina, and is the only )(Iap of the State, which. for accuracy of delineation. and minutia of detail can claim to be reliable. It has been compiled from all the surveys made by or under authority of the local govern~ment, the surveys of the eminent Civil Engineers in the ser vice of the several rail road companies. and the re sults of the United States coast servey, thereby giv ing. with great precision, the position of points along the coast. The 1ap, in point of minuteness, stands unequalled ; it exhibits the l:ncs of all existing, pro gressing anid projected rail roads; the whole systent of post and district roads and all other internal im provements ; the situation of cities, towns, villages, pozt offices, private residences, and the great multi plic:ty of otherobjects usually found on the best and most elaborate maps ; in point of artistic execution, it will challenge comparison with any !imilar work which has ever appeared before the public. The large Scale (5 miles to the inch) adopted py the authors, and the great d:stinctn<.ss with which it :atural and artiticial features aie depicted, adapt its peculiarly to the wants of all interested in com melee, internal trade, and general businss widhin the State. No one at all interested in the progress of the State can well do without this Map, which so fiithfuliy deliueates the actual condition of the countrY. The authors have the honor of referring the public to the gentlemen whose names are hereunto attached, as having given much valuable assiste~neo and informaztion to thie work ;also, to nmany as hav ing examined1 and certified to the authenticity and general excel:enee of the same.
