PROSPECTUS OF TH E New Map of the State of SOUTH-CAROLINA, COMPILED FIROM ST.rE, RAIL ROAD AND ("OAS' SuRveYs, av G. E. WALKER & JOHN JOHN SON, Civri. ExniNErERs. I ilS 31A\P which is now presented to the pub lic has been publish by J. H. LoLT~o'.'under the patro'nage of the Legislature of the State of South-Carolina, and is the only Map of the State, which, for accuracy of delineation, and minutia of detail can claim to be reliable. It has been compiled from all the surveys made by or under authority of the local government, the surveys of the eminent Civil Engineers in the scr vice of the several rail road companies. and the re suits of the United States coast servey, thereby giv ing, with great precision, the position of points along the cnast. The Map, in point of minuteness, stands unequalled ; it exhibits the 1:nes of all existing, pro. greasing and projected rail roads; the wlto!e system of post and district roads and all other internal im provetents ; the situation of cities, towns, villages, post offices, private residene.s, and the great miulti plie ty of other objects usually found on the best and most elaborate maps ; in point of artistic execution, it will ch..lleiig comparison with any similar work which has ever appeared before the public. The large Scale (5 miles to the inch) adopted by the authors, and the great distinctness with which it natural and. artifcial features are J.-picted, adapt i s pee.ili..rly to the wants . f all interested in con mierce, internal trade, and general baszm-ss wihin the Stite. No one at all interested in the pr.'gress of the State can well do without. this Map, which so faithful;y delineates the actual condition of the country. The authors have the honor of referrig the public to the gentlemen whose names are hereunto attached, as having given much valuable ussisteuer and infurmatiun to the work ; also, to many as hav ing exanined and certified to the authenticity and general exeel:enee of the same.
