*From the Prair.c Farmcr. WiRE FENCE. Messrs E.ilors :-1 do not remem ber to have seen anything in your paper on the subject of wile fences. I am, 11nwever, lully convinced that the day is not distant when it will be generally adopted. For the West il tntst Lee,ue tke fcnce, beyond all doubt. I have not constructed any yet, but have taken all the preliminary steps, made esti, mates, &c., and intend to put up some talfl a mile this season. by way of an experiment. And I will tell you how I shall do it. Wire known as No. 11 is about the 1 ight size. I shall prepare it in the sate manner that the wire is pi epared for a suspension bridge ; and that is done by boiling the wite in linseed oil -heated as hot as it will bear without hurning, for half an hour, The wire is then taken off, and hung in the sun until it is dried. Th'is pt OCCss is repeated three times. The object is to tender tie wire tough, and to make it impervi eus to rust. I shall then put up good solid posts, six tods apart. The first wire will be one fuot and a half from the ground ; the second six inches frorr. that the third eight inches higher ; tl.e fourth tuelve inches; and the fifth six teen inches-making the fence iv.c feet tigh. I shall fasten them to the posts, either by driving in strung spikes and making one turn of the wire round it, or by driving in a short stout staple. When completed, l shall with a heavy plow tarn some or four furrows on each side towards the fence ; but w hen that cannot be done well I shall put the first wire some four inches lower. If pro perly put up the wire will not sag ; but to give it a better finish I shall- take some round poles and dr:ve them into the ground, one road aptu t, and saw into them, per h.ps an inch, opposite each vire-laying the uwire into it. I will -drive a shingle nail to keep the wire in its place. Now for the expense. The wire will -cost outside eight cents per puul; posts, say twenty-five cents ; prep.tring wile one cent per, pound more ; digging -holes and setting posts, six Cents each. One hundred and twenty-five pounds of wire will make eigh:y rods. Let ts 6gure for that length, at live stland,: 125 lbs. No. 11 wite at 8 cis., $10 00 14 posts at 25-cis., 3 50 Preparing wire, 1 ct. per pound, 1 25 Setting posts, 88 Nails, s-pikes or staples, 1 00 76 stakes, and preparing, 4 cts. -ca. 3 04 Hutting up wires, 1 00 Total cost fur 80 rods, $20 G7 Equal to twenty-six cents. prr rod. Where any quantity is to be put up, say two, three or four miles, it could be done under twenty ccnts. I have seen it tried enough to satisfy me it will stop any animal, except a hog ; and I am not sure but by puttin.4 on another wire at the bottom it would stop even that ani mal. l-f yoked il certainly would. Bt out WVest yoking hogs wvould be called rather a putterinig business. I hope some of y our readers wvill try the wire fcnce, if it has not already been done. There cant bc no more durable fence, and none so cheap, even at first cost. if the Prairic Rose wete plhanted along side and allowted to clamber over the wires, it woulJ soon mrake one of the most beautiful fences that could be seen in the world. .Bufalto, April, 18-18. Remark.-WVe commenid the above to tihe attention of such or our Iteadets as tlack fencing timib, r, anid need dura ble fence on their plantations.
