From the New York New Era. QUESTIONS FOR TIE BRITISII WHIGS. We submit the following questions ic those who are crying out against the a. mihistration and the Democra:ie party, for the enlightened course pursued by them (in the curreuty question; and hope they vill reply in such a manner as will throw sorec light upon tie importnot principles iuvolv ed n their elucidation. Why did renlestatte, which cost, in 1817, gl,500,000,-bring only $ .00.000 in 18191 Was it the want of a U. S. Iant? Why was it .that flour sold for from Itweilve to thirteen dolktrs per harrel it 1817, -antd only four and a hail in 1819? Was -it Gen. Jackson's "tinkering with the cur rency!" Why were our imports sixty millions more than our exports in 1626? Was it the "specie humbug?" . Why were thousands and tens of thous ands thrown out of employment itn 118 find 1819? Was it the ".Suh-Treasury?" vihv was it that in 1816 &1817 % ild and .reckits speculations were engaged in, and wanton extravagance and luxury the order of the day? Was it the "want of paper monev?" Whly was it it 1818. '19, '20, and '21, our batiks, o'ur merchant, and our ntantt facturers, from Maine to Georgia were all involved in common bankruptcy? Was it caused by the "administration of Martin Van BBren ? " Why were the exchanges more derang ed in 1818, and the tiree subsequent years, ihan they were before, or have been silnce? Was it the "want of a great regulator?" Now we deny the-Britili whigs to dis prove the fiacts contained in the above tue ries. If they attempt it, it will hut attest their ignorance of our oflicial history; 'and make more manifest the glaring hypocri. sy which marks the policy they are purzou ing in relation to "high prices"and "hetter times." The truth is, Ithat the very causes which have produced all the misery and distress in this country-banks and paper money-they are now trying to renovate and perpetuate, that they may again launch out in the ocean of speculantion, extrava gance. and luxury. unmindful of their con sequences tpon the great massof the peo ple.
