This looks heavy enough, l>ut we hear, this week, that the prices on the Railroad, about Fair BluU'X. ()., and further south, is $ 1.50 foi virgin and $1.25 for old dip, 280 lbs. We arc not surprised ut this hill in turpentine; in truth we arc only surprised that buyers have held the price up so long. The price in New York for some lime has been very low and it is now dead flat with no better prospects ahead. This prostration of the turpentine market is distressingly heavy on the people of this county, in fact it may be regarded as a serious calamity. The value of the turpentine product of this county last year was not much short of $.'100,000. The price is now one-third less, on an average, than it was this time last year. So at the lowest calculation we see it must cut on over $o(),000 of circulation in tins county alone. Our people are not only dependent on turpentine lor quite all tlie money that circulates amongst us. hut uulorO tunately too may are entirely 11 ? [>? 11 ? dent on it for their entire sustenance. It is now loo lato to plant and raise crops, and as there is no other business they can go at tlicy are forced to cor.tinue in turpentine and by its over production continue to keep the price down.
