that'the Independents and Conservatives

Danukrous Spout.?Sorno persons
have recently been guilty of willfully
destroying letter boxes placed by the
side of post-roadG (or the receptacle of
mail matter.
Persons guilty of such low acts
show less respect, and appreciation ol
intelligence than the brute animal on {
whose back the mail is carried; lor he
is always glad to call at a letter box
on the route, and listens with qnicl
rand appreciative attention to the exchange
of news between the neighbour
and post-man.
No doubt these renegades from
Webster's elementary speller enjoyed
the sport hugely; to them it was irnmeuhly
funny; but in tlici* ignorant
bliss they little thought of the vast difference
between their position and that
of tbo boys who pelted the tr^kiu
sport.
We wish to remind J W? Hpractical

against the United States postal laws,
and "any persons convicted of willfully
and maliciously injuring, tearing
down, or destroying any letter box, or
other receptacle established for the
safe deposit of matter for the mail or
for delivery, shall (or every such offense,
forfeit and pay not less than one

A hint to the tewise is sufficient;
wo hope the next offender will be
punished to the utmost extent of the
law.
