The intendant has lime on hand for gratuitous distribution for sanitary purposes. 1 19* The dog badges ordered by oouncil will soon be ready. Every dog in town is to have one or be subject to sudden death. l9*The ship Lady Duffcrin has sailed from England for Port Royal with a load of cotton ties consigned to parties in Augusta. J9*Fricnd Mclntyre, the magnate of Hilton Head, reports that crops never looked better than now. He anticipates a profitable year for merchants and planters. The Town Election On the sixth of August occurs the annual election for intendant and wardens of the town of Beaufort This election is really of greater importance to our citizens than a state election. Whether Moses or another of the prophets rules in Columbia is of comparatively itfle importance, bat the health, attractiveness and business prosperity of Beaufort, in a great measure, depends upon the seWfion of a eood man for inteudant and .-ix good meu for wardens. >GU Judge Carpenter lias granted a preliminary injunction restraining the comptroller from levying a tax to pay interest on the Morton, Bliss & Co., bonds at the suit-of the taxpayers counsel. I | BML. The meeting at the arsenal 011 Monday night Wa3 the best conducted we i have ever attended in Beaufort. Everything was very fairly eohducted and the noise, profanity and confusion generally prevalent was avoided. To thechairman, Hon. R. H. Gleavcs, the credit is greatly due for this state of things. The precinct chairman may also he praised for his exertions for peace unquiet. t&* In connection with the recent suit of Mr. Collins against the county, Judge Maher's attention was called to the fact that none of the chocks of the present board of oommissoners have been signed by more than two of the board. Rev. Seaborn Drayton having positively refused to sign exceptant the anuual meeting. Judge Mahor, we undersand is of the opinion that the law requires the signature of all the members present and the counter signature of the clerk to everjr check issued. Sign, parson, and let us have peace. Pic Hie at MeCrea's Grove A large pic nic party under the auspices of a temperance society, left. Savannah on Monday last on the steamer Rosa and arrived at McCrea's grove about three o'clock in the afternoon. The ladies and gentlemen soon were dispersed under the shady oaks, seeking for pleasant spots to spread the contents of the basket. After refreshment, dancing commenced and continued merrily until seven o'clock, when the party re-embarked. Everyone was delighted with the location, thinking that no place could be more beautiful and better suited to give pleasure to pic nic parties. Over one hundred lots were sold by Mr. McCrea at satisfactory prices. Among the purchasers were D." W. Olivera, D. Mercier, and Edmund Girard. OLDESTABLISHED ; ^TEEKJLY LINE TO BEAUFORT.
