Kl ABBEVILLE GETS $1,534.56 FROM NEW TAX GAS Second Distribution Made Today Total Accruals for June, July and August $109,837.54 Columbia, Oct. 8.?State Treasurer Sam T. Carter, will mail checks Monday to the different counties foi their portion of the gasoline tax collected during the months of June, July and August. The total acrual to the counties to be mailed out Monday was announced by Mr. Cariter as $109,837.54. Of this figure Charleston leads with $9,426.18 while Spartanburg is second with $8,008.58. Under the gasoline tax act 50 per cent, of the tax collected goes to .the counties and 50 per cent, to the general state fund; Abbeville will receive $1,534.56; Anderson, $5,451.26; Charleston, $9,426.18; Greenville, $7,011.83; Greenwood $2,673.20; McCormick, $766.05; Newberry $2,455.54; Spartanburg $8,008.58. ( October 9 having been proclaimed as Fire Prevention Day by Governt or Harvey, the high school observed ^ the first period this morning by hearj ing a splendid address on 'Fir^e Prevention by Mr. W. D. Wilkinson. Mr. B ' j Wilkinson's address was fine, and he was heard with splendid attentive interest by the pupils and teachers of the high school. At the conclusion of his address Mr. Wilkinson announced 5 that he would give a $5.00 gold piece r to the pupil in the Abbeville high school who submitted by October 16 b i the best paper of not more than 500 ' words on the worst fire hazard with-' 1 in the city limits of Abbeville and | Dest reasons ior considering it xne worst fire hazard. The statistics coming in for the first month of school this session shows that the average attendance for the month of September is going to be one of the best, if not the best, ever before made at school. The eighth grade, for example, shows an enrollment of even 50 pupils and an average daily attendance of 49.85 for the month.
