Murphy, who has been visiting in Blitchton, Savannah and Augusta for the past ten days, will return to her home here Sunday. Mrs. W. D. Wilson returned from Spartanburg Thursday, where she has been on an extended visit to her niece, Mrs. Joe Everett. Sec. Geo. T. THE ACE OF CLUBS. Miss Kate Haskell entertained the bridge club recently organized by the junior set of young people Thursday afternoon. The club is composed of twelve members and Thursday the name, "The Ace of Clubs" was given the organization and it was decided to meet every two weeks. Mrs. D. T. Smith was named as president and Miss Elizabeth Jones as secretary. Miss Haskell's guests Thursday, were Mrs. Guyton, Mrs. Frank WelshJ Miss Magill and Mrs. Wilson Johnson. Birde on toast, salads and coffee were served as refreshments. A SOCIAL EVENT The young ladies of the High school are giving a farewell party to night at the home of Miss Judith Hill, in complement to the football team. The foot ball seasnn closed with the game of Thanksgiving and the High school girls feel that the boys have reflected great credit on tne school, on the town and upon them selves and they are giving them this party as a mark of their appreciation Refreshments of charlotte, cake and punch will be served. I Neil Swetenburg, who has stood by the boys and coached them so well, will present to each one of the team a white block "A" for their sweaters. The occasion bids fair to be a de lightful one. PLEASANT NEWS Miss Mary Quarles Link enter tained the Merrie Matrons at an un usually pleasant meeting Tuesday afternoon for when the place cards were read it was found that they contained the announcement that Miss Mary Lawson Link would soon become a merrie matron, in fact, I her engagement to Mr. Charles P. Townsend being the pleasant news. Miss Link is the daughter of Mr. R. S. Link and is a young woman beloved of a wide circle of friends; I while Mr. Townsend, a newcomei among us has found friends and im pressed himself most favorably up on our people. A salad course was served and the morning proved a most enjoyable one. , DEATH OF MISS MARY MEANS News came to Abbeville today of 'the death of Miss Mary Means, in Anderson, this morning, December 10th, at 4 o'clock. Miss Means was advanced in years, being in her eighties. The deceased was born and reared in the Means Chapel section of this county. She never married. For many years she has made her home with j her sister, Mrs. A. G. Cochran, and when Mr. and Mrs. Cochran moved to Anderson, she moved with them and has since made her home there. Funeral services will be conducted at Long Cane church, of which she long a member, tomorrow at twelve o'clock and the burial will be in Long! Cane cemetery. MRS. YOUNG DIES. Mrs. Eugenia Young, widow of the j late James M. Young, and a daughter j of G. W. Cromer and his wife, Annie 1 Kellar, died in this county, December j 8th, 1920. Mrs. Young was born Jan- [ uary 31st, 1836, and was thus in her | 85th year. She was married to Mr.; Young in 1874. He preceded her to j the grave by fifteen years. Mrs. Young was a consecrated Christian woman, being a member of; the Methodist Church for many years and she was ready to go when the j Master called her home. Funeral ser-1 vices were conducted at her late resi-"| dence by Rev, Mr. Ballenger, of the j I Methodist church, and internment was in the cemetery of her church. DEATH OF MRS. BRICE Mrs. Alice Brice, of Due West,' , died in a Columbia Hospital, Thurs- J , day, Dec. 9th, at 11 o'clock, following | i a protracted illness. During most of that time she was the Matron of the Dormitory at1 Erskine College, and she was most! successful in its operation. Especially was r she beloved by the young men of Erskine College who came under her r influence in the college home. Mrs. Brice is survived by one son. ' Dr. R. H.
