He wouldn't believe that Col. Cromer had foresworn wearing slips with string: about the ankles until he was showr that the colonel was sporting th< ^regulation" knitted garment. Dr. A. D. P. Gil- J Jmour, pastor of the First Presby-( jterian church of this city, in a ser_ I mon last night said he would rather ."throw away his vote unon the iProhibiton party" than to vote for jGov. James M. Cox, Democratic nominee for the presidency of the : United States if Governor Cox can ^ot show that he was divorced in- a .'manner compatible with the teach, ings of the Bible with reference to divorce. Dr. Gilmour said in part: . I "The Democratic national convention has created a most embarass_ ; ing situation for all loyal Democrats 'who are at the same time Chris.;tians. I do not know all the facts in | i . ,the case, and, of course, I shall sus .'pend judgment until these facts are ! | indefinitely known. But this much J . is certain: The Democratic nominee . jfor president of the United States J ; the "highest political office in the t 'gift of the people of the whole | >! world, is a man who has been di-j . forced and who has married again. j From the Christian point of view, it j does not matter so much what the ? divorce laws of Ohio are. The question for the loyal Christian is: Has governor Cox violated the laws of [the Bible or Has he not? According t to the teaching of Jesus, as interpreted by the Southern Presbyterian church, there are but two l? grounds for divorce, which give the innocent party a right to secure a * divorce and then remarry. They are * adultery and indefinite, wilful desertion. y j Now, as Governor Cox is asking ^ for the votes of Christian people, s we have a right to ask him in return y just what are the facts in his case. If he was the innocent party, and if furthermore, he secured his divorce g 'on one or the other of these two grounds, then, according to the teachir.g of the Bible as interpreted by ^ our church, his divorce and remarriage are scripturally legal. If, on e the other hand, he was the guilty ^ party, or if he was the innocent party, but his divorce was secured ,on other grounds than the.two menj tioned above, then, according to the scriptures as interpreted by the . Southern Presbyterian church, he #is under divine, condemnatiom I wish | .to know the truth about this matter. 11 do not know how*you may feel j j about it, but my mind is made up . and clinched. If it turns out that | j Governor Cox has violated the law of God, he will never receive my r vote. I shall rather throw it . away upon the Prohibiton party. I say . throw it away, for, of course, this ; party can not elect its candidate, even if it makes a nomination. But , no man Who has violated God's law [ in this .connection shall ever sit in , the White House with the approval of my vote.'1 >1 T^tW1^^.'gTM Hal MOORE WILL REFUSE LEADERSRIP IF OFFERED HIM Youngstown, Ohio, July 20.?E. H. Moore, Democratic national commiteeman for Ohio and pre-convention manager for Governor Cox, who returned to his home here'-from |S^.n.Francisco ISunday night, stated today that he positively would not accept the position of chairman of the Democratic national committee and manager' of Governor Cox'.-campaign for the presidency. CZARINA AND CHILDREN REPORTED BURNED ALIVE Paris, July 19.?The Russian Empress and her children were burned alive after the execution of Emperor Nicholas at Ekaterinburg, it is reported in statements at ributel to Alexis Dolrovitz, formerly courrier to the Empress, published her today. Doirovitz said he made vain attempts to save his mistress ad her chillren. The Empress and the children, Dolrovitz declared, were taken to a wood near Ekaterinburg. Brushwood was gathered and a huge fire made, into which the royal victims were forced. Every time they" sought to ?et out of the flames, Dolrovitz said, they were driven back at the point of bayonets. Tatania, the Empress ' second daughter, fled from the fire three times and eventually fell pierced through by a bayonet. The Empress and Alexis ,the heir to the throne, clasped in close embrace, walked almost automatically into the flames and disappeared in a whirl of smoke, according to Dolrovitz.
