They were guests al dinner of Mr. and Mrs. W. P Greene. BIRTHDAY SUPPER Miss "Louise Shirley celebrated her fifteenth birthday Wednesday by inviting fourteen of her young friends to supper. GIVING A PARTY Little Misses Frances and Mildred McCombs gave a i party Thursday afternoon to thirty of their little friends among the girls of their age. They spent the evening in playing "drop the handkerchief," thimble and other games of childhood. At the end of a perfect afternoon ice cream and cake were served. D. A. R. BRIDGE PARTY i Committee No. 1 of the local chapter D. A. R. gave a progressive bridge party at the home of Miss Nettie Russell Tuesday afternoon. About twenty guests were present. The prize, a large box of candy, was won by Mrs. S. G. Thomson and the consolation, an immense bouquet of sweet peas, was won by Miss Jessie Hill. The hostess was asissted by Mrs. Wyatt Aiken and Mrs. W. A. Harris. MISS JESSIE HILL ENTERTAINS. Refreshments were enjoy ed at the close of the meeting. The society will meet with Mrs J. M. Anderson in July. DEATH OF MRS. PENNEY Mrs. W. H. Penney died at he home at Hickory, N. C., Saturda May 29th, and was buried Mondaj May 31st, at Piedmont, S. C., Mrs. Penney before her marriag was Miss Sallie Hammond, of Abbe ville County. She was n srster o Judge Joe S. Hammond, of Abbeville She was married many years ago t Mr. W. H. Penney, he preceding he to the grave. She is survived by se\ eral children. ! Mrs. Penney had many friends i the county who knew ner in her girl hood and they will regret to hear o her death.
