Just before-the-noon hour, when the. senate convened, accompanied by Mrs. Benet, the new senator went; to the office of Senator Smith, which was joined by Admiral Samuel McGowan, P. H. McGowan, Miss Susie McGowan and Brig. Gen. Francis Lej Parker, all close relatives. A few minutes were spent there when the party went to the senate chamber. As soon as the usuaul preliminaries were out of the way Senator Smith made the announcement that Mr. Benet had been appointed by Governor Manning and immediately his credentials were read and approved.
