He is studying medicine in Philadelphia. W. H. Lyon came down from Anderson last Friday and stayed until Sunday with friends. Jimmie Cothran has been down in Edgefield this past week on a visit to nis friends and Relatives. ^ Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Howie are in Monroe this week on a visit to their relatives. They are accompanied by their three bright little girls, Pat, Bob and Jo*. Miss Ruth Howie left Monday night fbr Cary, N. C., where she is a student in the Cary High School. Miss Howie is an accomplished musician and while home for the holidays > she played for services in the Baptist, Methodist and the A. R. P. churches. William Hughes has returned to Cary, N. James is a student at Ersdne and spent the holidays there ivhen he could have gone some where else, which argues that he has a sweetheart in the holy city. John W. Coleman, a portly and a prosperous citizen of Green-rood, came over Sunday and visited the family of his brother, Mr. M. T. Coleman. Rev. and Mrs. George Nichols and children, of Macon, Ga., are here on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nichols. Mrs. H. A. Benton and little Mary Louise, spent several days this week with relatives in Monroe, N. C. \ A CHARMING RECEPTION. The largest and most enjoyable entertainment of the Christmas season was the reception given last Wed- j nesday night by Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Coleman at their lovely home on 1 Greenville street in compliment to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hemphill Coleman, of New London, Conn., who were in Abbeville tor tne nonaays. The Coleman home is beautifully adapted to entertaining and in its decorations of wreaths, Christmas bells, holly and mistletoe, was beautiful indeed, and made a handsome setting for the bright and animated scene. The guests were greeted in the hall by Mrs. Gertrude Sign, and were served fruit nectar by Misses, Eugenia Coleman, Caroline Reese,, Hubert Cox and Lowrie Wilson. In the music room Miss Lavinia Coleman, Miss Rebecca Sanders, Mr. Arthur Carroll and Ralph Syfan received and entertained, . while in their handsome reception hall, Mr. and Mrs. Coleman made their guests welcome and introduced Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hemphill Coleman and Mr. R. G. Hemphill and Mrs. R. R. Hemphill. Assisting in entertaining the guests were also, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Rogers, Dr. and Mrs. G. A. Neuffer, Mrs. Rachel Minshall and Mr. W. E. Hill. In the dining room the table was lovely in its service of Cluny lace with a center bowl of red carnations; The Christaias season was tastefully shown in the refreshments served, the cream being given a snow effect by a garnish of whipped cream and cocoanut. On each plate a sprig of holly gave the final dainty touch. Mints and coffee were also served. Entertaining in the dining room were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hill, Miss Marie Minshall and Mrs. Wm. P. During the reception hours a gay throng of beautifully gowned women and handsome men passed to" and fro in the house while from eleven till two o'clock dancing was enjoyed by the younger set The out-of-town guests for thii pleasant affair were: Miss Rebecca Sanders of Greenwood, Miss Mari< Minshall of Greenville, Miss Marthi McDowell and Mr. Vernon McDowel of Camden, Mr. Arthur Carroll oi Hartsville, and Mr. R.
