Carpenter, | former editor of the Daily Mail, but now assistant librarian of the house of congress, became engaged in a I fight on the streets here this afterII noon, creating intense interest I' Mr. Cheshire was first attacked by | Mr. Aiken, who says in a statement I given to the Press that he came here I to severely whip Cheshire for articles | about his father that have been pub|| lished in the Tribune. A few .minutes after the first attack, Mr. Ches11 hire went in search of Aiken and |j Carpenter, being informed that the | stranger who attacked him was Bara11 well Aiken, and that Carpenter was I j with him at the time of the attack.
